They did no research on light nature :)
They measure light intensity and use it for scene lighting as well as when working on reference textures.

I think you're confusing scene lighting with sky brightness. rF2 doesn't do justice to sky brightness at the moment. It tends to change during development.
Of course rF2 is capable of reproducing intense lighting. Look at this old screenshot:

Here's a quicke I've just made in dev mode:

It's only a matter of how you set lighting. Some things and settings must be changed, but ability is there.

That is the image that I liked before leaving the beta. It is very representative of what can be achieved in rfactor 2

Just the darker richer blacks straight away in that ISI shot make one hell of a difference. Maybe they are a little too crushed in that shot but it shows how much better rF2 could look with even some exposure/contrast and colour correcting. Those blacks make one hell of a difference to the washed out grey we have right now without adjusting TODS. I'm confident in time we will get a great looking game.

Blacks comes from very bright sky and sun. That is what is missing in current builds of rF2.

Agreed. I would also like to see them get rid of the pinky hue the game has aswell.

Just a couple of unedited shots, Build 101:

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I think it was placebo, but I can max out the graphics (except for Anti-Aliasing) and still get 60+fps. Should be all right for multiplayer if it doesn't go below 40 I guess. And all my components are 3,5 years old.

No idea what could cause this, but in the third shot it looks like some bad depth of field effect from an arcade racer. :p

    100% unedited, yes.
My rig is pretty old actually (from January 2009), but it still delivers most of the time. It's an Core i7 920 @ 2.66GHz, 6GB OCZ DDR3-1600 and my good old XFX GTX285 XXX.

Ingame settings were all set to max (with FXAA and HDR on, AA ingame disabled and enforced 8x SuperSampling via the driver).
Notice the track is feels3's Croft which really is gorgeous when setting the time to 9AM and sunny weather conditions for example. ;)
