Everything is possible, just a matter of picking a solution and making it happen. Anyone who said it couldn't be done was mistaken. Will be interesting to see how it works.
I know, I'm kidding. I said that recently. everything can be reprogrammed today. let's give it time and see how it will work as you say
It seems like a very simple thing to do in online races but the devil is in the detail, especially with old code.
no worries on delays , its not pushed back that far either. good work , all i see is constant improvement.
Y'all with disk space complaints realize that the cars you don't own will have to be downloaded with each content release, right? I mean, that's how it works for the other systems that feature.the ability to drive against content you don't own.
My guess from the picture is that you'll race against an improved version of the yellow box, perhaps a low-poly version of the missing car or maybe a generic model per class, with little in the way of skins so there won’t be much to download.
The scope of this and how it's handled is something I'm eagerly awaiting news on. Physics is small, collision and basic appearance a bit bigger, textures and sounds make the demand high. But if you don't own something then seeing a very basic pared-down version shouldn't disappoint you too much. Or is this DLC only? CS only? Are there separate schemes for DLC vs other content? Intriguing indeed
Although I am in favor of this change to the ownership for online racing, its going to come at a cost. When I looked at the latest DLC cars, they seemed to range in size from 250Mb to 300Mb (though some have liveries that I think are going to be removed). You are going to have to pre-subscribe to these, you can't be downloading them as you join a session. If there are 13 or 14 GT3 cars, then that's a big chunk of space. Now, note, I do have this same issue with iRacing, and I'm happy to do it, but its 48Gb on my drive right now... my rF2 install is 70Gb... my AMS2 install is 86Gb...
Cars are smaller than tracks. It might also be that it works like normal steam subscription (now that the unsub to DLC will come as well), but with a contentunlock file that will hinder you in driving what you haven't paid for!
If the cars you do not own are downloaded unconditionally and never used by user (because not doing MP at all for example), I can already see people complaining it uses disk space for nothing on their 128GB SSD 99% full. So ideally, missing stuff should be downloaded only at the time it is needed.
We want Flatspots! (until we got a flat spot) We Want Shift Protection! (until we had to wait to downshift) We want to be able to race online with one car (until we found out how much HD space that will consume)
Now it seems that if you can't run Nordschleife with 50 different cars at maximum details and framerate the game is trash. Holy moly batman!
We want absolute reality in simulation . . . . . . until we find out how costly, complex, time-consuming, . . . Be careful what you wish for!
