Thank you for suggestions, I don't have shadowplay installed so that should not be it. I also tried turning of the gsync and go all vsync, then it seems to stay at the low 75fps range and never bumped up to 100fps (all other settings the same).

With the clock in mind I did an run for 3 laps, the fps is solid 100, but on an straight is goes down to 75 to then a bit later bump up to 100fps again.

    upload_2018-1-1_2-53-16.png

The 75fps moment is when the gpu load on both cards drops and clock for the 2nd card drops for a while.
Is this normal? I'll monitor this with AC and AMS as well to see how it behaves, maybe update to the
latest nvidia driver again (went back to an older to see if it helped).

Hmm, but I can also notice this when the system is in "stand-by"

    upload_2018-1-1_2-59-28.png

I do have 2 monitors to the 2nd card and the main to the 1st card but still, strange difference?

And a little update, tried another mode, same behavior but this time clock did not change

    upload_2018-1-1_3-18-24.png

    Edit
Clean install latest 388.71, same behavior.
Using AA level 5 on some tracks helps a bit since gpu get's a bit higher.
Still, using shadow medium or soft high drops fps in 35-50fps range when around other cars
(using the inspector, free laps at 75fps, start 100fps and when ai is away the fps jumps a bit to then stay at 75)

    Suggestions and ideas welcome :)

So after whats seems, endless of hours of testing I think I found an solution to the problem. Fps drop due to low gpu load seems to be an problem for some installation if googling but not much of solutions is found.

I have tried different drivers, tools and trying to tweak the card but nothing helped. Setting the gfx so high that it worked in hotlap made very low fps during start of AI race, regardless of track/car. If the car/track had less gpu load the fps was on 75 or jumping up/down when AI was around 75-100fps and constant micro stuttering (when not at 100fps).

    Finally I did these settings:

    upload_2018-1-2_4-55-24.png
fps is not locked, set to 0
gsync is active on fullscreen and window
other setting than low for shadows or soft particles drops the fps below 50 when around cars

With above, I have an almost static 100fps during "hotlap", starting an 16 AI race it drops to 90-95 but
is still smooth without stutter, for now tried 2 different car/track combos.

    Edit,
Using None for Sync seems to work ok as well, could be that fps 0 in json and 100Hz was the trick?

    Keeping my fingers crossed... :)

Rfactor 2's Multiview / Sli "Must " be optimized. Simple as that. Having to drop Circuit Detail , Shadows , Soft Particles and Environment Reflections to low level is simple unacceptable. Especially considering many users are running GTX 1080ti , X2 sli. The current king and fastest Video card available today. I could understand if other titles ie AMS , Raceroom , Assetto Corsa and Project cars 2 were struggling to run at 100-120 hz with any type of decent graphical setting but this simply is not the case.
I love RFactor 2 and still play it often. But their customer support is lackluster at best. I continue to hold out hope that eventually the team over at Studio 397 will perform a complete Passover of the mutiview and sli compatibility code. It is long overdue. :(

Yes, overall the sli/triples performance have issues, a very few seems to have got it to work but the overall experience is not ok. For my personal preference I like the low on circuit detail, and most of the time PP effects don't make it much better. I really would like to use better shadows, they really enhance the experience. I see the recommended medium shadows for less powerful hw cfg, for me it is just not possible, with soft particles and medium shadows the fps drop is 50-75% when around other cars, how is that even possible one could think..

And running AC at almost all high settings at solid 100fps is no problem. And as an remark, AMS all maxed out, gpu load is 20-30% but that's not really comparing apples with apples so to say.

But with above it works rather good and rF2 is my number one choice, I also hope for better sli/triple optimization during 2018.

    Hmm, I7 7700k PCI Express Configurations ‡Up to 1x16, 2x8, 1x8+2x4 . No PCIe 3.0 x16 x16 and that why you so bad game experience and fps @Wergilius . The problem is that rF2 is exceeding 64 Gbit/s, which is the limit of the /Pcie 2.0 x 16 = Pcie 3.0 x 8 port.

I'm rather sure the inspector says 3.0 x16 on both cards, I have got improvment in both AC and rF2 when switching over to this mb

The render test full screen stated both PCIe x16 3.0 @ x16 3.0

It seems that yours is working at 1.1 instead of 3.0
Have you checked your BIOS PCI-E settings?
In which slot did you put your second GPU? It seems that it should go in the 3rd long PCI-E slot.

Hmm, yes they mounted in the 1 and 3 slots, so I need a new CPU i7-7820X but that's another socket...
I moved cpu, mem, sdd etc from my old mb and I had performance gains in AC (measured by internal benchmark) and rF is working better.

But same time strange that it says x16 (and the 1.1 what that means), the new i7-8700K is the same specification to PCIe

With the nvidia inspector monitor, there is an busload monitor, could that be used to see if near any limits?

@Wergilius Might be preaching to the converted here but in GPU-Z click on settings (three bars top right) and tick the always on top, then fire up rF2....mine say @x16 1.1 while I'm on desktop, firefox etc but soon as I go in game it says @x16 3.0...

So when starting rF2, the state changes to below on both cards:
    upload_2018-1-12_20-49-7.png

gpu load, power level and bus usage, 16 ai start, 100fps, normal 05-100, drops to 85
sometimes but no significant stutters with my current settings
    upload_2018-1-12_20-51-29.png

And to compare, AC 24 AI start, 100fps, fps drops 99.5, very rare to 98+fps
    stutters happens but rare
    upload_2018-1-12_21-10-59.png

So yes, bus usage seems much higher in rF2, but is my setup near any limits?
Then it for sure is strange that it reports 2x16 but should actually run 2x8?
Unfortunately I did not do this test with my previous motherboard.

With Studio 397's rFactor 2 small update, adding various fixes as well as improvements to the way shadows are displayed within the game , I have notice a big improvement while running Shadow set to medium. This also provides a much needed graphical boost in overall quality.

It has improved but I still have close to 50fps drop instead of 10fps at the start and into T1 using medium instead of low (16 AI's). But overall, the shadows even at low has much better visual quality.
