I understand the point of view of those who have not tried VR, or who have tried it on a poorly configured system and with low-resolution VR devices, etc.. I think that the objective or ideal for a sim racer would be to drive in a real car, on a real track. So, the closest we have at the moment to simulating reality, at least visually, is using a VR device. We are in the cockpit, inside the car, with the correct dimensions, of the cockpit where we are sitting, steering wheel, etc.. I can get so much in VR, that even the size of the steering wheel or shape (oval, circular, rectangular) seems to be what I have in my hands... With VR, I don't spend money on different steering wheels, button systems, etc... Naturally I spent money on other add-ons, but that's what others who play with monitors do too...
Now, honestly, those who had VR, a good system, well tuned, those who used it and go back to monitors, it's something that I honestly can't understand, changing the visual simulation for 2D...

    Here for you to understand…

My system is quite good (7800X3D, X670E, 1600W PSU, 64 GB DDR5, 4090 FE) but VR (Quest 3) is so far a no go for me in sim racing because of the reduced immersion compared to triple monitors and excellent wheels, gloves, shifters, etc…

    Why?
1/ The hFOV is just to low compared to triple and real life car racing.
2/ The look of the gloves (and wheel sometimes) in VR is just not realistic.

I however use VR for flight sims (MSFS, DCS) as I am not a real life aircraft pilot and therefore I don’t react to much negatively to some lack of immersion.

I do however absolutely agree with you on the fact that VR is much much less expensive than an excellent non VR setup.

I have 3 setups in my litterally 5sqm gamig room
    Triples 1080p 27in freesync
    4k OLED TV LG C2 48in
    VR Headsets a Q2 and a Neo3 Link

VR has taken the absolute simracing time lead in the last 12months owning the headesets
The immersion is fantastic and the image clarity especially on the Pico device is so good that it makes it up for the OLED black level has and the FOV of the triples

my 2p of real life owner of all these options listed above

I wonder if the 360° FOV expectation is very realistic, I don't get too much visual range IRL with my helmet on.

I don't know. Based on that logic shouldn't we also play other games in VR? At least games that are not 2D and that you play for longer than a couple of minutes. For some reason VR hasn't caught on and even in sim racing a large number of people opt for triple screens even though you can get a VR headset for the same price basically. It's a chicken vs egg problem. If not enough people are playing VR, then devs lose interest in supporting it over time. If VR support doesn't exist, then obviously usage will go down as well. I can see both arguments here.

I've got a Quest 2 but never use it.
Had a few attempts but found it uncomfortable to wear and lost the feeling of space around me that I get with triple monitors.
It's consigned to hanging on the wall next to the rig...

Triple screens wouldn't fit in my study and don't have the 3D vision I get from VR.

I remember racing at Le Mans and miscalculating how far the fuel would take me in a stint so I rolled to a halt early in the morning. A measure of the realism of VR is that I could look up out of my side window at the marshal waving a yellow flag, even more so is that I instinctively reached out to pull on the handbrake!

What I like the most about VR immersion is the sense of gravity it provides to the whole experience. That part of cheating the senses where they tell me hey, danger.

    Can you please elaborate?
I am not sure I understand what you mean with gravity.

When one says something is "giving gravity to the situation", it can mean it makes it more meaningful, more serious. It's a metaphorical usage of the word, not literal.

    ah ok!
And I was thinking there was more behind that.
(I use only VR for flight sim)

Never know, they might just use discord. Would save the "why only on discord" complaints re announcements etc.
