I get 15minutes to test 1 lap with 30 cars with me starting in last position (All cars in front of me) Everything maxed out in game in Copckpit view 30 cars visible 16xAF 8xAA 5040x1050 Fraps do not run in x64 executable so I used the the tool that rfactor have. With 100% dry conditions 64fps - Minimum 92fps - Maximum In Wet 48fps - Minimum (In T1) 72fps - Maximum With so many cars for me its just perfect VRAM used = 2800MB
Just noticed this, just wow! I want those trees If you have single player test version I'm willing to test the performance with my specs
Thank you guys for your feedback only seeing images Sometimes its what we need to keep motivated to go these kind of works...
You know the answer: Performance. Your tree is absolutely nice but how much is the gmt in size. Billboards are only two tris plus one material. For distant objects is technically the correct approach since there is no way to tell the difference. For trees close to the track your approach is better looking but need to pay some attention on performance. Imagine ring tourist full of 3d trees... PC would explode! As a summary, models like yours are highly required and appreciated. Including some high quality objects where they will be fully appreciated is a plus for a track..
Your artistic skills are impressive Nuno! I read your answer but I am not convinced that they don't have a huge effect in performance. Your idea of using billboards in lower detail is very good unless everybody is forced to use it! You said several thousands of polys which cast shadow and probably will be reflected. My impression is that it will have a severe impact in performance if tree groups are modelled with this technique. However, I encourage you to keep working on it because the work is superb.
I'm not that skilled. I simple search for tools to get my work done and that tool have a name. Speedtree! We can create thousands of trees diferente everytime. Of course I know that performance will have a big impact but i don't want to do something that after all just I and a few more can race on that because of low fps... My gold its to achive a performance similar to lock drumond based on benchmarks that we have done some months ago with several machines. Thats a lot of problems related to that trees as you said so I have to be moderated. Two more and diferent Pines trees to last turn... Off course that Palms won't be to Zandvoort, was just to see how it looked... Link for the original Video quality here
Great work Nuno! As for "god rays". They happen in real world, when air is more dense or its pollution is high. That is not yet simulated by the sim and current implementation of fog and clouds seem to not use it, so that's where I would see it beeing implemented.
That's me racing there lol. I decided to try out a league on rFactor 2 a while back, this was my first event with them. I raced it simply because I like racing. I've no idea who did the circuit or whatever, but I agree with your sentiment. Now I run my own series I cherry pick circuits so that any potential first timers get the best possible impression of rFactor 2. I can't wait to include this circuit in my series.
