Afaik racers are most polished cars always, as far as I can remember too.

I was astonished to see in old colour photos (50s) how shiny racers were.
I wondered why they bothered?
Aerodynamics of course

 

There was a driver I worked with in the past who used to think a shiny race car was worth at least a tenth of a second on the track.

Something about the air sliding over the car unimpeded rather getting caught on the tiny bits of dirt.

 

They also constantly polish the walls, floor, etc. Those mechanics never stop!

How much would they take for polishing my VW? I could use their skills.

 

Better be careful how they apply those stickers then!

 

There is a spray that smooths down decals, I remember using it at scale models, cant remember the name, I bet they are using something similar.
Or just pure wax?
