It is interesting that you would bring this up. I once thought that race cars were polished to provide a smoother surface reducing drag, but since then I have learned that a smooth surface actually creates more drag. The best possible surface for speed is similar to that of a golf ball which is why they make golf balls the way they do.

By the way, great cockpit shot, love it hehe.

I agree tjc and hope that the guys showing us this stuff actually inspire someone else to create the content and do it better for the community. :)

Hi Rik, do you capture the screenshots from the replay or you take them live(in game)?!

If any of you guys are using F12 for screens be sure to consider changing the option for screenshots in the player...

    Code:
    Screenshot File Type="3" // 0=default (jpg), 1=bmp, 2=jpg, 3=png, 4=dds
3 will give you png`s that are better quality.

    :)

Terribly OT but I cant help it

"Flow over a golf ball. (This can be best understood by considering the golf ball to be stationary, with air flowing over it.) If the golf ball were smooth, the boundary layer flow over the front of the sphere would be laminar at typical conditions. However, the boundary layer would separate early, as the pressure gradient switched from favorable (pressure decreasing in the flow direction) to unfavorable (pressure increasing in the flow direction), creating a large region of low pressure behind the ball that creates high form drag. To prevent this from happening, the surface is dimpled to perturb the boundary layer and promote transition to turbulence. This results in higher skin friction, but moves the point of boundary layer separation further along, resulting in lower form drag and lower overall drag."

you compare though a flying sphere to a half cone (more or less) driving on the ground.
Dimples give lift to golf ball too, you dont want this on a car.
Smooth surfaces offer cars less friction and cars dont have the inherent aerodynamic problems of spheres too.

Thats why racers dont look like this

In short, by their calculations the dimples gave it an 11% improvement in fuel economy.

    Speak for yourself.

Here are shots of the same ol' stuff all over and over again, so I don't mind some teasing shots to break the boredom, at least people are working on something and they're having fun with it, it's not an easy job either. Those WIP will go public one day and maybe then you will have a bit more appreciation.

They told the same in rF1. There're tons of "private" material which never were public. If it's private, keep it private.
