Isn't he told to start in 2nd gear because 1st gear often jams the gearbox? I see that he's using 1st gear in many corners, and the sound from the gearbox then is not very nice :| Maybe the gears are long but he should have been able to keep 2nd gear in most corners? What I've understood is that this is the first H-shifted racingcar Rossi drives, so he's not using heel-to-toe or driving very smooth, so maybe that is a explanation to why he's loosing the rear under braking But it is nice to watch anyway. Love that sound!
These gearboxes had Reverse left up and usually protected by a small metal switch (?). First gear was left down. These are called dog leg boxes. The idea is, that 1st gear was used only at starting, and then it would be easier to use the rest as they were nicely grooped together. 2nd front middle, 3rd back middle, 4th front right, 5th back right. Where does sequential come in, I dont have a clue. btw, Rossi handles it well if you consider he doesnt have any experience racing with manual h-boxes.
Yes I'm sure he's doing fine considering it's the first time with h-shift. I was just saying that his lack of experience could be the explanation to why the lotus looks hard to control sometimes Thanks for the explanation about the gearbox nikos... So then he was using 5th gear? Someone said earlier that he only used 4th. But that sound from the gearbox doesn't sound good anyway
But I don't think Lotus is possible for ISI? Is it? Tim? We want this! However, if it ever comes to rF2, I'll re-map my H-shifter to have 1st gear left down
Rossi really doesn't know how to downshift, like I mean he REALLY doesn't know how to down shift (watched him in the lotus and vette)
Somehow people did not figure out that there is an article linked in the video description: http://www.roadandtrack.com/features/magazine/fast-present-future-64-8-roa0513 There you go, sweeties.
Sorry but my conscience just wouldn't allow me to keep silent. Anyone who loves this car and has pCars and hasn't tried to latest update might want to fire it up and take a spin in the lotus 49. Honestly. I have been trying pCars updates since very early in the project and have never spent more than ten minutes with it before abandoning until the next update. Until today. I spent all day today in the lotus 49. Amazing. Track selection is important also. I recommend Badenring, Bezos, Florence or North Hampton. Edit: Doh! And Spa!
And not just any old Spa, but Spa historic (its a bit different to rf2 Spa Historic and catches me out as a result, but it looks great)
Then do a bogus-name imitation. Someone outside ISI can fix the skin and name later. You're right, we do need more like-performing cars to give some variety to each class.
I tried to do this, turning my g25 shifter front to back, so I have Reverse up left. I then tried to remap gears, but somehow g25 couldnt change the pattern. btw, I think most of gearboxes of era were dog leg, not only Lotus. Lola should be like that too.
thats a ZF 5DS-25, used in Lotus 49 as to others as well (many Lotuses, Ford GT40, De Tomaso Mangusta and Pantera. Mustangs)
Sv: OT: Lotus 49 onboard! The modern Scania truck i drive in work have it too.. Kind of but it's not very fast...
Ive read they use it for trucks as you get off with 2nd gear and 1st is only for crawling, is this the case with your truck?
Not with the Scania. Start with 1st and go directly to 3rd. But with MAN trucks we start in 2nd and go directly to 4th.
I was drunk when I wrote that. Anyway, everyone who enjoyed the video should check out the article, too. It explains what they were up to and gives you an idea of the mood of the situation and of those involved.
