I for one keep the wheel on in game because there is information on that wheel that isn't on my own so I have to put up with it. I don't like to run with a HUD and like everything to look like it should so I just turn off the arms as I do have my own arms
The only time you should really need to look at the tach is after you blew the engine. They were there for diagnostics more than usage to shift. It's all about the ears.
