[WIP] F1 1986

As far as I understand it, there was nothing stopping teams from running full boost in the race except that the engine would "grenade" and other components would fail.

...there were qualifying engines that had unrestricted boost pressure, and qualifying gearboxes, designed to withstand the engine's extra power; these components would only last about 3–4 minutes (2–3 laps) during use. These drivetrain units were then taken out and then replaced with the boost-restricted engines and specifically prepared gearboxes for races (if too much power was used, the engines would be so worn that the combusting in the engine would burst right through the block due to the immense stress on the metal caused by the extreme temperatures of the combustions in the engine's internals, hence the nickname "grenade").

Up until 1987, there was no limit on boost pressure. In 1987, it was limited to 4.0 bars and in 1988, 2.5 bars. Then turbos were banned in 1989. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Formula_One_regulations
The other point that may be unfamiliar was the use of fuel. Fuel compostition and overfueling, were used up until the end of 1987 as an intake charge coolant. Measureable and significant extra power was achievable by tailoring fuel composition and mixture to allow latent heat of vaporization and fuel quantity(more)to lower intake charge temperature to use higher boost pressures to create power. In 1988 the fuel quantity allowed for the race was reduced to limit the benefit of this performance enhancement strategy.

Different game version or server version?

Server should be up to date latest rFactor version. Are we missing a mod version update?

Hello
I have not yet done the test of this mod that seems very successful.
I watched and I realized that the mod has an update for the "physic" on some circuits. I assume that these tracks have a .GDB that calls the upgrade.
I suppose that this pack of circuits are known to you but I do not feel to read the 64 pages to find their links ;-(
Can you help me.

Hi Chief,
any news on a historical version?
I guess it's a league version for now so no difference on teams?
am i right ?
Thanks for the answer.
I play with ai but it's not reflecting the real team standins for now.
for the rest, for me simply the best mod so far, period ( or in equal to carrera 1988 ;) ) ;))

Nah... Chief's mod is way better than Carrera 1988, just look at the car models and you see the difference and touch of splendor from Chief.

@nericksenna ,
Not here to make any competition. Sure this mod is fantastic, but carrera give us 16 tracks also, don't forget it ;)
Just so happy to have the opportunity of driving those beasts. ;)
All my respect for all moders in any case ;)

So, what about the historical version possibility Chief?
Thanks alot
Cheers

@ChiefWiggum ,
Hi, i supose that indy cart have make you busy last month.
But now, it looks nearly finished, what about the HE of 1986 f1 serie?
Thanks.

Ps: i'm working on new ai path specially for those cars on carrera mod tracks.
I can't give that modifications without carrera's authorisation now but, it work so much better for the ai.
So, that's the reason i'm aware of HE edition.
Maybe a complete mod joining carrera tracks and your carset would be a good thing for the community, but i would'nt do anything
without permission of course ;)
Just an idea.

New F1/86 sound in the works. The car in the demo is in race trim and is still underpowered at 750bhp (the real car waas hitting about 950bhp).

Interior audio is finished. Outside has a few things left to do but before I continue on the other cars, do people actually want this, or do they prefer the old sound?

I think some people will prefer the distortion as it sounds louder. Personally I don't like distorted samples because that's not actually what you hear, it's what the poor microphone manages to record as it gets decimated.
