The 1954 Gold Star season reached it's climax at a wet Goodwood a few weeks ago. Each class with a 10 lap sprint race. Lots of slides, several incidents. (~23min) And the 1955 Gold Star season recently commenced in Belgium. Many drivers changing teams, and some new drivers welcomed. Also lots of slides and several incidents. Also, the film crew now equipped with widescreen and better film! (~20min)
Because some of the same '54 entries at Le Mans ran the '54 Tourist Trophy at Dundrod, I've scanned the '54 Tourist Trophy race report from Autocourse. This includes lap times. Same issue also had the '54 Italian GP, so that's there, too. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SS7Ae4nCrIiDV9rM4UY2yt3CeteLQYQ6?usp=sharing
Thanks very much Happy to report the mod is currently being updated, and will include a few representations of cars seen at Dundrod '53 and '54. eta unknown, as ever, but it's not never
Way back in 2019, Corti posted the '54 Le Mans report and lap times from Autocourse. Over the past week or so, I've been laboriously typing the times into a Google spreadsheet for easier analysis. While I'm not yet ready to make the spreadsheet publically available, attached are samples of the charts that can be produced. The gaps in the lines are where the car was delayed more than 15% of its median lap time, either by pitting, a driver error, mechanical trouble, or some combination. For instance, you can see how the Gonzalez/Trintignant Ferrari had much delay in the 22nd hour. Likewise, the Gignoux/Cornet DB was delayed in the 5th-6th hours. The '54 Le Mans was rather rainy. Big downpour after the 5th lap, but then light showers or drizzle. It began drying out around hour 13, but then showers returned. Around the 21st hour, it rained more steadily until the finish. Some of this shows up in the lap times, but it is hard to draw any concrete conculsions. View attachment upload_2024-7-5_19-6-23.png
Okay folks, it's time to share the '54 Le Mans spreadsheet as I'm tired of trying to find errors! Yes, between interpreting the occasional fuzzy print, my typing, and some original mistakes, there probably are a few. Please kindly report them to me and I'll correct the spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ozI39AtdScZQx5VT6F4Bey4dgtMWkhyAvIAwrZj9-2Q/edit?usp=sharing If you're interested in seeing the difference in lap times from dry to thoroughly wet, examine shortly after the 16th hour. That's shortly after 8am on Sunday. Everybody still in the running has a slow down that gets worse over the course of 5-6 laps (about 20-30 minutes).
That's a wonderful collection of info and presented helpfully. Should be able to put it to some use in the mod Thanks, and well done
I've added a tab for the 8:10a Sunday dry-to-wet transition lap times. Generally speaking, it looks like the tires should generate wet lap times at least 8% slower than dry lap times (slow cars are affected less) and visibility/skill accounts for even slower percentages. Reading The Techniques of Motor Racing: Taruffi, Piero: Amazon.com: Books, it seems tires in full wet conditions generated only 0.4G of grip, but I haven't tested to see if that generates reasonable lap times. Comparing to modern cars & tires, today's mediocre all season tires generate more dry grip than the tires in 1954 were capable of. A premium summer tire (e.g. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02) generates more grip in the wet than 1954 tires had in the dry!
Thanks again! We've been considering the likelihood that the damp/rainy periods of the race could have reduced the overall tyre wear during the race, since the cars won't have been cornering as quickly, slides/wheel spin would have been lubricated, and the tyres would have been a little cooler. That is to say, the tyre wear may be slightly increased when the new version of the mod is ready. Your info should be of some use in assessing tyre wear and general wet grip (and dry grip)
The '54 mod update is nearing the completion. Update work is in support of the Carrera Mundial series being hosted by HRSC (Historic Racing Sports Community). Info below if you're like to join. The graphics are being updated, and Mantas has done a variety of physics improvements. We've added a few new cars, mostly inspired by the 2023 HSO series which included representations of the Lancia D24 and OSCA 2000S. With support from HRSC we've also added a representation of the rare 2.5L Maserati A6GCS, as well as a 1.5L Gordini. And there will also be representations of the "red" 750 Monza and 500 Mondial cars in the 3L and 2L classes respectively. A number of extra liveries have also been added for some of the existing cars, bolstering the lineup from 1.5L up to the 5L/8L classes. The 0.75L and 1.1L have been dropped however, in part due to the sheer performance disparity, but also the lack of resources to develop those cars to a higher quality. So the focus has shifted to the faster and more popular cars. With these changes the mod is slightly less specific to the big French endurance race, and now includes some more general 1954 endurance racing influence. The HRSC Carrera Mundial series will be using this in-progress 1954 update, and signups for the league are now open. The five-race endurance series starts on August 31st, at Longford! You're welcome to come and check out the community and join the series, and other events, either on a race-by-race basis, or for a complete series. You're also welcome if you just want to come along and participate in the testing and development of the mod. HRSC has become the unofficial discord for the 1954 and 1967 Endurance mods, and it has been very helpful to effectively have a home league for the mods, or to be something of an in-house mod for the leagues. HRSC also run other series (just completed a 70s TransAm series) and other events, including an annual full 1967 Targa "Siscilia" (yes, ~7 hours, ~Florio). Some other upcoming events include '60s F2/F3, and a short cup-series based on the '54 mod's homage to the Jaguar C-Type. HRSC aim to provide broadcasts of their major series/events as well. I will post Carrera Mundial stream links here when available. Initially the 1954 update will be for the HRSC Carrera Mundial series. The public steam workshop version of the mod will update sometime soon after, including refinements for the AI which aren't such a priority for the online league. Further details and sign-ups are via the discord. Here is an invite to join HRSC's discord (7-day invite expiry). https://discord.gg/9WhNbsWB
Here is the full lot of 1954 cars (76), and the Jungle Car Mk.C Cup cars (65). The Mk.C Cup class has a selction of 46 "realistic" period race car liveries (a few double-ups on chassis numbers), and 20 continuation cars with two in each colour (the 700-series numbers)
The HRSC Carrera Mundial starts in a couple of hours/very soon. Three hours at Longford in the '54 cars. 3L+, 3L, 2L, and 1.5L classes. The spotter's guide shows a nice variety of custom liveries, based mostly on the international racing colours system. Live broadcast stream: https://www.youtube.com/live/JIKRS4tD4Ew
@woochoo & @mantasisg Hello and thank you a thousand times for your work. I wanted to know if the updated steam version of this fantastic mode will be released soon ? I have finally replaced my pedals and I can't wait to test this fantastic cars combined with the fantastic physics with my clutch pedal and my gearbox. Have a nice day!
I'm very sorry, unfortunately there is another delay for a public update. Currently there is no new eta, but i will post if/when that changes
Just to let you know woochoo. I have had the same MAS2 error again after the last updates. I told you sometime ago the Howston would make MAS2 crash when you attempted a edit. After last update it was fixed. Now Cobra is doing the same thing. Just packaged and tested rfmod with only the Cobra and Longford. When you click edit MAS2 crashes and you must remove the pkginfo for it to start again. Howston and Longford work.
i have no clue about that. are you talking about the stock howston and cobra, or the mods i based on them?
Make the rfmod above in MAS2 Now click the edit button MAS2 will crash and won't open again till you clear your roaming folder. I have 30 rfmods cover all content none crash in MAS2 when I edited them. For years I had to leave your Endurance cars in a seperate rfmod from Historic Sportscars ( you can see HISTORIC ENDURANCE which is your cars and selected tracks in my screenshot ) otherwise Historic Sportscars would crash and I would have to rebuild it from from scratch and that had 20 times the amount of content, took time, so making a seperate rfmod was best solution at this time. I mean it's no biggie just means you can't edit the rfmod for some reason.
