[REL] Apex Modding - 1999 Endurance Championship

I yoss, thanks for the hard work of your team. I like the models and the cars handle well. It's a great trip back to my childhood. I found two issues that right now keep me from playing the mod. 1st of all the sound is very strange for all the cars. I know it's very difficult to find a sound engineer let alone to create your own sounds but they sound very digital and in some cases distracting from the driving. The sound of your other projects in comparison like the WSC70s cars or the GT3 cars sound fantastic in comparison. Maybe Fonsecker, who is working for S397 for Le Mans ultimate or anyone from the studio can lend you a hand. Maybe it's the samples so maybe reaching out to VRC modding team or RSS might be an option aswell, as they offer those cars.

Another little issue that I think is easier to fix is the colour balance of the different skins. From what I have seen on track and in the showroom so far your skins use in some cases stark colours wich don't work with HDR engines. Never use full on whites or blacks for example, as it will make your cars look flat. I think the uploaded image shows the issue a bit better.

For the skins that I created for the Group C mod I used black with an RGB value of (25,25,25) for the black Havoline Porsche for example and for the white parts on the Liqui Moli Porsche I used (220,220,220). That way the shape of the models come out nicely and those colours work overall pretty well with the Post Processing. I hope that helps you. I really would like to help with skinning but I don't have enough time right now.

 

Those Porsche liveries will hopefully not be final. They were also painted before or during the very early days of PBR changes within rF2 so it is understandable the extreme values are now exaggerated. We have had a great contribution to add Viper liveries, which will be coming up in an update soon, maybe there will be some real life liveries made for these that we can incorporate with permission.

About collaboration, it's far more difficult than that. One of those people mentioned has been contacted in the past and turned down even permission to use old, existing sound clips once he joined a studio. And other modding teams, especially those with a financial focus, are not willing to collaborate with projects especially rFactor 2.

 

Good sound files are extremely hard to find.
Unfortunately.
But there are sound packages that cost almost 200 euros.
Matching the sound of the Viper is a challenge.
I hope there will be something for you (Apex).

This is heading in a very good direction now. The sounds still sound a bit as if the RPMs are rising and falling too slow, but otherwise it's a very enjoyable ride all around, so good that I just lapped around Le Mans for an hour. Felt fantastic sailing with the Crysler tank through the Porsche Curves. Also the interior and exteriors look very good now. Keep up the great work.

We are touching up some bits of the R391 to get it adequate for release, and meanwhile we have Matthew Overton helping us to ensure we can provide liveries for our Porsche cars. Both may be released at the same time, we'll see. But things are definitely coming . And then we can work a little more behind the scenes before announcing our next project.

 

One thing, the #91 and #92 Viper skins included are actually the 1999 ALMS skins, not the Daytona 24 liveries

 

Yes, Yoss made a mistake when writing the changelog (the 91 and 92 are ALMS which means it ran the US circuits, not only one) but there's no impact in the mod itself. They are not Le Mans liveries but are classics and would be a shame to not be included.

 

Cockpit-side logos sorted with new mapping (old sticker in preview), engine air intake cover removed, and cockpit details (seat, beams) being finalized.

 

The Porsche will be getting an update shortly as all of the liveries are now included. There's a reasonable chance the Nissan R391 will go public with it .

 

It may feel like teasing but it's just real life priorities getting in the way of free modding . We aim to release the Nissan alongside the Porsche update, there were small gremlins to sort out to get the PBR set up right, the suits and helmets for all, etc (file versions get mixed over time).
