Hey guys, just played around with the GT3 Challengers and added some more color to the grid. Yes, no official templates are available and yes, that's the reason why the skins are rather easy (only color changes for instance). However, this helps to advance the grid for the moment until the official templates are available for proper skins! Please note the McLaren is currently not skinable at all because of missing information on the new shader stuff (i.e. cars currently will have no reflections with alternative skins). So this made it impossible to even do some simple skins. Anyway, have fun and happy new year! Download EDIT: Some preview screens
Not really this version of the skin, but at least same team https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/amg-htp-mann-24h-vln-2017.18175/ Ninja'ed!
Actually I'm working on some skins for the new Porsche GT3 R, especialy all cars of the last 2018 VLN race and some GT Masters cars. All Liveries will released on RD after official template release. I think, if I have some time left, I'll take a look at the other cars A preview of some liveries will follow 'till the weekend...
You can extract the DDS and get an idea of how things go together (and do a basic reskin),so this is a good opportunity to gather decals, work out colours and even experiment with lines on the basic DDS
Just like that. I start with the base DDS to recognize the basic structure of the skin file. Finding out all the details, such as the door handles, is a tedious job without a wireframe. Before that, I vectorized all the needed decals and searched all used fonts. I use my own photos or ask the teams for support. To place all the stickers correctly can be very time consuming, especially if the surfaces are fragmented. But practice makes perfect. For the first car I needed about 5 days, for the second only one day. Now I'm waiting for the templates ... (No, I do not know the release date) Here a first view of the (almost finished) Manthey 911 "Grello" (without AO layer)
Yesterday I've got the PSD file of the original "Mamba". Thanx MANN-FILTER Motorsport! Now it looks a bit easier to finish the skin... Work in progress:
Dont know how it is with rF2 but when i made a few skins for AC i could look at them in showroom and as soon as i saved the DDS in Photoshop i could look at it in real lighting of the sim and inspect it from all angles in 3D. Also, i guess, in later Photoshop versions you could look at it in 3D while working with it and actually paint it in 3D. At any rate, AC's program made it easy to use any program just to be able to look at your work instantly, and then correct any issues within seconds and look at it again. I havent even tested to do anything for rF2 as in my imagination Everything is much harder in rF2.
That also works in rF2 - BUT: 1st: AC use one folder including all (dds) files. Saving the file and checking the complete car in the showroom is a simple thing. rF2 needs a 'MAS'-file if you want to check more than the body.dds (exp. window.dds), so you have a few steps more to do... 2nd: If you want to skin in 3D, you have to extract the 'gmt' files (AC & rF2). But the files of official / pay content are almost locked and you can't extract the needed 3D files. Good for developers and bad for us...
