better force feedback effects... I´m not a good tester. did not pay too much attention to fps performance at least 2 builds from here and stop to do experiments with my settings since i´ve got acceptable performance. Running everything maxed out in game (less shadows=high, sun oclusion off, enviroment reflections off, visible vehicle = 12, hdr and FxAa off) In CCC, everything up to aplicattion settings. Catalyst A.I texture filtering quality to high. anti-alaising mode= performance In config sim tool: anti-aliasing none, unchecked hdr and FXAa Resolution 1920X1080 32 bit Intel Core i7 cpu 860 2.8 ghz 6136 MB windows 7 AMD 6870 3815MB video driver v8....bla bla bla Played at millls now with clio and lower fps was 53. Some times pass 100, drop a little when too much cars but i think i got 70 fps on average.
I will be installing the update in a little bit, but from reading the release notes, 12.8 looks a lot like just a WHQL driver update to include Windows 8. Will know more after I get it installed and tested on my system.
It looks like i am the only one that experience heavy bug with the last catalyst since 12.5 When i use one of those, almost all 2d menu get artifact (long black line , like on old tv when the reception was not good) , i have re-installed my windows 7 between two test and it did happen again. WHen i roll back to 12.4 i don't have the problem anymore, so it doesn't looks like a hardware problem. I'll give the 12.8 a go tomorow then. radeon 6970 /windows 7 64 bit
Cool thanks for the heads up, I'll do some FPS comparisons between the new one and 12.6 later which I think I have installed at home...that or 12.4 can't remember!!
Not certain if the 12.8 drivers are responsible, or the 8 system updates that got installed on reboot, but I seem to have less stutter now that the 12.8 is installed.
AMD drivers have issues at times when you install new drivers over old ones. When you install the drivers from the exe file, there is an option to uninstall. Use that first to help ensure a clean install of the new drivers. This might help out.
Only 10? noob heheh, just kidding man. That is definitely a strange issue you are having. Hope the 12.8 get's you taken care of. @ RCRacing: have you looked at ATI's website to find the driver? It was in the list for me obviously. What Windows and graphics card do you use?
12.6 vs 12.8 Benchmark Test, Sapphire HD7850 stock settings: 12.6..................12.8 - FRAPS Benchmark of 120secs with AI driving, x3 Runs: 12.6 Min 49 Max 85 Avg 64.517 Min 50 Max 77 Avg 65.550 Min 42 Max 86 Avg 65.025 12.8 Min 48 Max 82 Avg 63.300 Min 50 Max 76 Avg 61.858 Min 40 Max 77 Avg 61.583 Conclusion: Not a great deal of difference with the Heaven Benchmark, RF2 is slightly worse but not worth worrying about. Smoothness was pretty much the same when AI drove. I am planning on a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit soon and as always that improves overall system performance and sometimes helps with FPS as I've found in the past, when I do that I'll do a similar comparison. Also to note dont take my results as gospel, an exact same system as mine could yield different results!
I could update this time without side effect yet! Less graphical bug and no difference concerning perf for me.
Roll back to 12.6. With both 12.7 and 12.8 I get OGL issues and many crashes on 3dSmax when I use the AA option on viewports. BTW I do not see any noticeable variation in FPS for all these 3 drivers.
Tuttle, did you try and reinstall the latest DX? Sometimes that is required in order to make things work right. I would install DX11 as well as DX9.0c
ahhh ati and ogl! That's a real pain! But don't worry , just look at your atioglxx.dll in you sys folder, back it up, then update to the latest catalyst, and you have two choices : -Overwrite the new one -copy it in you ogl/game roots folder And tada! 10 years of ati, 8 years of freespace2 open
I've tried just with ATI installations after a complete sweeper. The only driver who works fine with OGL (for me) is the 12.6 (and previous WHQL). I didn't tried to reinstall DX...but how you can force the reinstall? When you have latest DXs the installer just bypass the installation...and my main problem is on the OGL side with a lot of viewport bugs in many OGL applications.
That's interesting...but I'll do a stuff like this just when I see some FPS improvements. But thanks for the nice info! PS: These are my first ATI cards after 20 years with other brands (Matrox for editing, nVidia/Quadro for 3D etc..)...and I think they're the least.
You aren't actually forcing a reinstall of DX. You are just making sure that the new drivers have all the right stuff for OGL as well as everything else. Some times it works, some times it doesn't. I actually had to do it to get XD to work on my system a couple of times due to new graphics drivers.
