Why temp car AI

Driving online with AI and one is a generic block shaped car with the word 'temp' on the the side. Why?

 

When other cars join a online session the game has to load the skin. That causes a huge lag. A temp car was the solution since the early days of rfactor1. The game only loads skins when the player is in the garage.

 

If you are on track and you get a joiner simply pit.

AI has nothing to do with it ...ever seen a AI test car ? No

 

I've seen AI test cars after latest build They appear sometimes in my LAN races and I've obviously already loaded them. Seem to be a funny bug.

I'm confused by that, can't seem to see where your heading with what, someone enlighten me

 

I have a number of thoughts but I am not a race expert but I would think that it has something to do with knowing who is on the track before everyone enters track because would not be fair for their tires to be warm or something like that so you could identify it.

 

Or perhaps this is a way to take care of drivers who drop out for various reasons and try to rejoin. They get replaced by an AI car that needs to load it's own skin?
