Sheesh mate, I knew it was cold but I didn't think it would snow there.
The sand trap wouldn't pull you up today

Yep. Happens quite often. Does not last long. Melts pretty quick.

Saw quite a bit of hail on the mountain in 1987, as Jonny Ceccoto and I thing Brabham the younger.

Was that the Jonny Ceccoto who raced motorcycles on road courses in the USA (I think)back in the 70's?

Yes.
He drove an BMW M3 in the 1987 Bathurst 1000. That year it was a round of the World Touring car championship.
