Screen freezings and fps drops

How many of you have fps drops/lag/stuttering when you crash and break sg off your car?

Dear everybody and Studio397!

I have been suffering for a very long time in this game from screen freezes, fps drops thats feel like fps lag and its very annoying and makes the game unplayable in a league, because its very dangerous.

As I wrote, I can split the problem into 2 part:

1. SCREEN FREEZES (1-2, or even 3 seconds)
2. FPS LAGS

Now I try to write everything about my problem, maybe somebody can help me. Then I write the things which I tried to solve the problem. But firstly, here is my config:

CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 1600
GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 1050 TI WF2 OC 4GB
SSD: SAMSUNG 860 EVO 250GB
MOTHERBOARD: ASROCK AB350 PRO4
MEMORY: KINGSTON 2X8GB DDR4 3000MHZ HyperX Predator XMP HX430C15PB3K2/16
STEERING WHEEL: LOGITECH DFGT
MOUSE: LOGITECH G102

The problem is:

1. SCREEN FREEZES (1-2, or even 3 seconds):
I get the longer screen freezes randomly. Sometimes the game stops 1-2 or rarely up to 3 seconds.
Once I had the task manager opened in the background directly to bring to light what causing this, but unfortunately in the task manager I didn't see anything when the 2 second screen freeze happened. If I'm alone on the track, these freezes happens too without any sign. And I noticed that the freezes that lasts longer they are happening only in multiplayer mode. In single player mode I didn't get 2-3 seconds freezes (at least not yet).

2. FPS LAGS:
On the top of that I have fps drops sometimes which seems to be like mini screen freezes, so if I get these fps lags on a brake point, I crash to the other driver, which I don't want to.
Luckily (or not) I can reproduce the lags, because when I break off a part from the car, for example I break off the front wing of my car, or any other player at any distance from me break his car, I get fps lags.
This is how it should be imagined: A week ago I practiced on our server with my league mates, and I got some fps lag/drops in one corner, then I asked who crashed again? And yes, one of us brake his car, but he was not even close to me, he was far away from me on the track. Or other thing when there is a huge racing accident at the start, and a lot of cars lose their wings, I have huge stuttering at that point. I don't think that's normal.

I made a video, how could I reproduce the FPS lags/drops:

In this video I inculded MSI Afterburner hardware monitor screen too. In this video I have vsync on, but It happens when vsync is off. As you can see in the video, when I crash into the wall I have the lags only when I brake something off the car. Yeah, in this video this is a very little fps drop, but when I'm on the track and others break their cars, this is used to be bigger and lasts longer a bit.

And now the list, what I already tried:
- Update all drivers to latest
- Try vsync set to adaptive in NVCP, tried with ingame vsync, tried without vsync
- Reinstalled rFactor 2
- Reinstalled Windows 10
- Disabled Windows game mode and DVR feature
- Ran the game borderless/bordered/fullscreen mode
- Ran memtest86 on my memory modules, 2 pass, 0 error
- PC realiability test with BurnInTest software
- Update BIOS to latest
- Move the game from SSD to HDD
- In controller.json I changed the "Use thread" to true, and "Use Additional Hardware Features" to false. I noticed a tiny bit improvement in fps, but screen feezes and fps lags are still present
- Tried to Clear 'Shaders' and 'Cbash'

I don't know what else should I try. In other games I didn't notice screen freezing, this is the only one game which has these.

AND I don't know if the fps drops when break off a part of my car, and the screen freezes are related or not. I'm a little clueless now.

Please help me, and If you need any more information, some log files...etc just tell and I will send.

I wonder if the new user interface will solve the problems ?
But I have more problem with lags and screen freezes in multiplayer even if nobody on the track except me In single player I have no random lags and screen freezes as I tested. (But this fps drops when break the car still presents in single player mode too, but no random longer screen freezes in single player mode, even with AIs.)

Two things that you could look at that I didn't see mentioned, Windows power plans and rF2 network speed settings. If you haven't already you could try turning both up.
 
In our league, most of people also have little freezings when there is an accident wherever in the circuit.

I was investagating it, and found something weird. If you use rF2 log analyzer or similar, you will see there are always a lot of contacts in the results log files. This happened always in rFactor 2, but not in rFactor 1. When any driver has a contact, all vehicles report same contact. This does not happen always, but in most cases. Please, see this example where the contact was reported for all the 24 drivers in the server:

I copy this example because in this case there is exactly one line for every driver, and twice for the driver who actually had the contact (David Diaz), but usually the contacts have more lines, so if I driver crashes and reports 5 contacts with parts, circuit, etc.... this can be multiplied by all the drivers in server. Also, the crash is heard by all drivers. This is a lot, I'm not sure what happens behind the scenes, but I guess that only the fact to write so many lines at once in the report can be related with these freezes.

Please, see this example where there are over 260 lines of contacts reported in 2 seconds (first 140 in 3 tenths of a second). Last 100 lines deleted because I reached maximum post characters count:

@pety100 try to change "Inactive Sleep Time":-1, in player.json, that makes lot of changes, but why, don't ask from me, it made whole game snappier.

On saturday I raced on official Silverstone with official GT cars on a P1 Gamings event, and it happened too. They were not so long screen freezes, because longer screen freezes are not present in every race (thankgod), but I had smaller 1-2 tenths lags, like mini screen freezes. In one lap more... And I don't know, if it matters or not, but on the replay I can see these 1-2 tenths fps lags or mini screen freezes (or what shuld I call them) too. Strange :/
 
Just to confirm I have these freezes when I crash or even more pronounced when there is a big crash involving cars ahead. Sometimes I can't even see them if they are corner ahead but still get the freeze so I would guess it is not (only) rendering problem.
 
I have the same problem. Screen freeze about 3second and sound.
After finish screen I see my car that has kept walking.
 
Strange lags when crashes happen could be related to third party content, especially tracks ripped/converted from other games. Different games handle things differently, and it seems some games that detect collisions in a different way (possibly using other, dedicated, collision objects/code) can have things like fences as a single object (or two) covering the entire track. In rFactor and rF2, especially in the early days, this killed online races because of the way it does things. Basically when someone runs into something, the game communicates this to anyone close by and (I think) also sends more position related data to those drivers, so the ensuing interactions aren't impacted as much by latency or slow data. But it does this by checking if you're near the collided-with object - so when a single wall or fence object covers most of the track, most of the cars are then considered "close". rF needs things like walls split into many objects, and all the usual ways to build a track make this happen automatically. Quick rips don't do this.

So, as usual, when trying to find a fix for a problem, make sure that problem occurs on official content. Otherwise you're trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

The short lags are a different matter. @pety100 have you brought up the CPU graph (Ctrl-C by default) to see what it does during the short lags? If the green histogram shows some frames with a much higher frametime (usually little dots further to the right on the histogram) that would indicate something interrupting the graphics pipeline and causing an FPS drop/stutter, while if the purple bar moves to the right end (or the histogram shows some dots further to the right of the normal column) that would indicate something hogging CPU time. But the latter seems unlikely with your system, unless rF2 is doing something weird or you have a stray background process.

It made change, but not better change? Something wants to use CPU on background then, I'm betting on disk IO, personally would eliminate few things, ie. replay files totally to be sure at it's not those and then switching off windows disk cache flushing. If any changes happen after those.

I will make video later and I will cut out the part where tha lag happens. I hope I will not forget the CTRL J and other things to switch on :D
 
Here is a crash when CTRL + J monitoring is on.

When I break my wing I can see the usual fps drop... And on the CTRL + J monitoring window I see some dots appearing above the green line when I breaked the car. I don't know what does that mean exactly. My GPU is running only on 50-60% beceause of low graphics, so GPU should not be the cause here I guess.
 
Have you got vsync on? Your framerate didn't budge from 60fps.
And the graph on the right hand side, the CPU ctrl+c graph was fine.

I mean this frametime spikes. This feels like a mini freeze which is very annoying. Sometimes this is bigger a bit, especially when others crash.
