    His question was: 770 4GB vs 780 3GB :)

    Easy choice for me...

    780 3GB

GTX 770 its nothing more than a GTX 680 "rebrand"! end of question :)

I was trying to find out what characteristics of the VCard were most important to getting max graphics(frame rates & effects)from the rfactor2. There seems to be so much confusion regarding exactly what will be satisfying to get up and running with an efficient build with some built in capacity for future evolution. You shouldn't have to be buying a new VCard every six months just to keep up!

    Fair enough :)
I add something about PCI-E 2.0 - as initially, my friend had lower fps in rF 2 than should, when we were testing 780 Ti in his PC, I checked PCI-E and it was working @ x8 (he plugged the card to second slot for a reason). Then, we run the card in PCI-E x16 and fps went back to normal. The difference was, about 20%. As we were already after tests in other games, like Crysis 3, Battlefield 4, Far Cry 3 we thought maybe that 20% we will gain in those games as well! Well.. not really :) There was just a slight fps gain in Far Cry (like 2-3%) and other than that, no gain at all in other games. So in that case, rF 2 is the one that benefits the most from PCI-E bandwidth :)

No. I was happy with GTX 580 for 2 years (and when I bought it, it wasn't the fastest one on the market). Now, 780 non-ti seem to be the best gfx card for the money if you target for high performance in rFactor 2. Should be enough for at least a year or even longer, depend on how well Maxwell will perform.

So you can take a 680 and overclock it to the same levels of overclock that you can take a 770 with the stock cooling? Damn I wish you told me that before I wasted my money. So really I shouldn't buy another for SLi just get a 680 and reflash the bios, should work fine with it being just a rebrand yeah?

Original question has clearly been answered. 7970 or gtx770 4gb and it would favour the gtx, even a 2gb version.

Perhaps we should have a different thread for benchmarking Nvidia and discussing whether the extra money for a 780 or 780Ti is worth it.

Yes you can OC the 680, but you can OC the 770 aswell. Its not just a rebrand card.
If I would have 680 myself, I would get 780 and OC it to Ti level. 770 isnt worth the money considering the upgrade it provides in comparison to 680.

Unfortunately there is no more an option between Nvidia and AMD.

Prices of Radeons have skyrocketed since last month.
In november I have bought a 7950 for 200€, now, at least in Italy, is impossible to find one online for less than 300€!!!

People are buying dozens of Radeon high end cards for building bitcoins/litecoins mining farms because Radeons are way better than Nvidia at accelerating this particular task.

Time to sell my 7950 over the bay and buy a 780ti

The price difference between a 770 and 780 is still somehow high.

    View attachment 11230
Note: This might be different from country to country. Analysed on Dec 14th, 2013

However, as you can see in the following link, the 680 is around 6% slower than the 770, not much.

Nevertheless buying a new GTX680 now is wasting money, so the 770 would be the choice depending on the money that can be spent

    Yeah I was being mildly sarcastic about the rebranding I know a 680 isn't a 770.
Going to try a second 770 SLi in the new year, if it's junk I'll sell the pair and get set some superclocked non reference 780Ti probably.

    Answer = Yes. - > http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_680/31.html

First, look at the diferences, http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_770/

Same chip, higher clocks! The diference is on power consumption. They take off 10/15W from the original 680 (good inovation) but even that way for me and for the majority of users it still being a rebrand.

Answer = Not guaranteed but not impossible. Google it.

Just one more thing, you don't need that sarcastic mode. That way is pointless to answer you or anyone else. Foruns were made to share info it you don't like it just pass and read the next post.

    Happy Christmas for everyone :)

I'm an idiot but I think i'm going to go for an r9 290 or 2.

I've seen tests of the custom asus direct cu2 r9 290x, its gtx780 ti performance (except in RFactor still :( ) for $100-$140 less!

For another $100 or so less than that, the non-x versions should be coming out soon and they are, for the most part, hardly slower.

Then again Nvidias new cards are scehduled to come out this March, ahhhhhhhh, can't make a decision, if only I was rich.

Hmmm......, i won't influence you'r decision but what you are not, is sure not 'n idiot, the idiot's are other's  .....but the card is just great, the software isn't in this context.

See the status of the software you would like to use with and set your choice. I can't and won't more clear, even my honesty in public has it's limits and you're smart enough to make the right decision by yourself. ;)

    Hello..here my resulst..
    with the following System..
CPU AMD 8350fx, GPU AMD 7970 GHZ Edition, 8GB 1866 RAM

Benchmark Loch Drommond with Clio, all max , 1920x1200

    with Driver 13.12whql
    2013-12-26 15:41:51 - rFactor2
    Frames: 6235 - Time: 205032ms - Avg: 30.410 - Min: 17 - Max: 54

    and with driver 12.11beta11 + 12.11CAP2 + SDK2.9
    2013-12-26 16:32:11 - rFactor2
    Frames: 9612 - Time: 208168ms - Avg: 46.174 - Min: 38 - Max: 59

    - So..the fps are much better with 12.11 beta driver but not enough for this card..
GPU usage are 75%-80% with the 13.12 driver 95%-99% and the fps are lower (that´s mysterious)

I hope ISI and AMD can fix the problem in the future.

I swapped my AMD7870 for a GTX770 4g oc, now all I get is a game that constantly crashes :(
I removed all drivers installed new ones, even put the 331.93beta drivers on crash.
    Not happy Jan!!

There is a config.ini file in the userdata folder that you may want to delete as it could be configured to your old 7870 card. I've had trouble with rf2 crashing after some driver updates and when changing between gtx 460's sli to gtx670 and then to gtx770. By shear luck I found that deleting the config.ini file and starting the game (which creates a new config.ini file based on my new system) seems to fix the issue. I've compared before and after config files in the past and found them to be different.

    Give it a shot....
