I'm not quite sure if this is a bug or performance related feature. However if I drive next to fence (car's front facing fence, about 0.5m distance from fence) at main straight with headlights on, headlights illuminate ground behind fence same way like if fence would not be there in first place. It causes then illumination of surroundings bit too well in many situations, but it can fairly well be desired as shadow caster fences might hurt performance quite a bit I believe.
Shadows in rFactor2 are not supported for headlights. Last time I checked, same thing was in iRacing and pCARS, but I don't have these, so I may not be up to date. The thing is, adding shadow casted by headlights can be costly. If a game does that, it's usually at the expense of headlight range. I've seen such shadows in NFS Shift, but headlight range was so short, it was unpractical.
Yeah, probably like so, one would need some more efficient way of stopping light instead of shadows, just ignoring receive light for certain areas maybe? Would require quite bit of planning though to get it work for varying situations.
I was surprised to see shadows casted by headlights in GTA4.. pretty cool, though unpractical atm, performance-wise.
