    Hi everyone,

Been a long time since my last post. I am now going to concentrate on the RF2 version of Lakeside. So no RF1 updates for a while.

So, I am going to post progress here and I will be asking for help along the way. I would love to get it to the standard of the other high end 3rd party tracks.

QLD Raceway will also be done later, and released as a package.

    Mike

Hi guys. I have a couple of fellow forum members helping me understand how to get the best looking textures, and this will be where a huge amount of time and effort will go in.

I have attached a screen shot of 3DSimEd and Photoshop to get an idea of what I am doing. I have access to very, very hi-res images in Google Earth ( a special link the GE normally does not use) and this is very helpful. I am going to use a GE hi res back ground image as a base in RF2 with grass textures. The biggest learning curve is blending the embankments to the grass, as in the ISI track Mores. That is the finish I am after.

Once the terrain and track is done I can populate the track with objects. The image on the left is photoshop where i am removing road and tree shadows etc to use as a base image. 3DSimEd is shown in early form and in game the grass textures look very good. Once sorted it should look very natural and like the real thing. Lakeside changes so very much through the year from brown to dusty dry to how it is now, fully green and long grass everywhere. I will try to get a nice balance.

The right hand shot shows a 3DSimEd of Mores and the embankment and my Lakeside. I hope to replicate that soon.

I will also need help with the AIW file in the future as well. View attachment 18912 View attachment 18911

    Hi again!

Wow, stumbled upon settings that look quite good. Just have to blend the embankments and it is pretty good. View attachment 18913

Satellite image is a good idea but will only look good at distance. When you are close to it it will look too flat... You must multiply it with something else in my opinion too achieve a better result.

    Keep it up ;)

Starting to join all the vertex. Next will be the road and lines. Fences and walls after that. Going well

Using a satellite image as a coloured noise map is a great idea. I would try the multi layer grass/dirt shader and put the sat image on UV 4. Maybe it takes some time to find a good saturation/brightness/contrast setting for the satellite image and to do the vertex painting, but I believe it's worth the effort.

    Keep it up. :D

For those of you who do not know Lakeside, here is a video from December 2015.

It is very green at the moment, lots of rain. Normally is is brown/green, not vivid like here. I will release the track with mid tones.

There is room for a 1960s version of this track to, since it was used for the 1967 and 1969 Grand Prix.

    Here is the 1969 GP.
