Sorry for digging out this thread but I am looking right now at what AA levels are available in nV Inspector and I see a nice match:
    Level 1 = 2x [2x Multisampling]
    Level 2 = 2xQ [2x Quincunx (blurred)]
    Level 3 = 4x [4x Multisampling]
    Level 4 = 8x [8x CSAA (4 color + 4 cv samples)]
    Level 5 = 16x [16x CSAA (4 color + 12 cv samples)]
    Level 6 = 8xQ [8x Multisampling]
    Level 7 = 16xQ [16x CSAA (8 color + 8 cv samples)]
    Level 8 = 32x [32x CSAA (8 color + 24 cv samples)]

As far as I can tell none of the settings in the rfactor2 config make any bit of difference. Setting nvidia inspector to 8xQ [8x Multisampling] and in game at 0 makes it look slightly better but nowhere near similar changes in visual quality seen in other games. Enabling HRD makes it alot worse aswell. Im guessing that nice looking visual quality is at the bottom of their list, and that makes sense with it being in beta and all. Heres a link to a thread I made about rfactor2's image quality if anyone wants to check it out. Maybe someone will have a gold nugget of information that will make it look like it should...

Here's the secret: don't use Nvidia Inspector or AMD Whatever.

Just use the stock ISI config and rF2 will look great. People who mess with custom settings bring ruin on themselves. This has been true since the F1 days of the late '90s.

Here's what Level 5 AA looks like using only rF2's config utility – Nvidia profiles merely set to "application controlled".

I followed your suggestion but the outcome is the same :( Here is a new screenshot I took with ingame AA set to level 8 / no nv inspector adjustments and all nvidia control panel settings to application control.

I have added text explanations and enlarged the problem areas. Check it out.

And I'm assuming you have anisotropic filtering turned up to 16x in the game with maxed out texture settings?

Do you have the "features" o0thx11380o so nicely detailed in his annotated screen shot on your rig? Because the rest of us do have them, including the shimmering shadows and shimmering textures that go along with them. Been there since Day 1 of rF2. They're there in rF1 as well, excpet you can use SSAA to get rid of them in rF1 and still have playable frame rates. That's not the case for most people with rF2.

There are some nVIDIA Inspector settings that you can play with that will help, but you are claiming that the default settings work well and they certainly do not. There are years of online discussion proving otherwise.

Please clarify that your Level 8 cures all the issues here:

If so, please be prepared to help us figure out what's different in your set-up than everyone else's. We will all want to replicate it.

Also, what's the latest wisdom on Transparency AA="1"? Should it be set to 1 or 0? And why/when?

I can confirm I also have these problems with the antialiasing. Mine looks much worse because my resolution is 1920x1080. It seems as if the AA is not being applied to things in the distance. I have to run 8x supersampling to minimise the flickering. Is there any way to fix this?

    edit:
Here is a screenshot. I have set ingame AA to level 8. In Catalyst Control Center I have set AA mode to "Use application settings". AA method is set to adaptive multisampling.

It should be set to 1 since it was introduced a few versions ago. It improves the AA at least in trees.
But it requires a special configuration for some materials, and it will break the transparency in those otherwise. You can see it in Poznan trees, for example. Thus you can set it to 0 until the tracks with the problem are updated.

They also make it impossible to listen to their feedback. You can't trust the feedback of those who do that, unfortunately.

You should never judge others by your own standards!

I have better results in rf1 and rf2 with nvidia inspector settings. As well for eye candy as for performance!

If you get time could you explain what the various in-game AA levels represent? I'm more than happy (and would prefer) to use them but I find the game often looks better using AA through Catalyst and I know exactly what type of AA I am applying. Level 1-8 means nothing to me.

    Thanks.

I took a set of screenshots of each setting in CCC and standard in game (primariy to see FPS changes), you can easily see the differences in each picture, can post them up later if you like?
