All I can say is, I only use my editing software for rendering and my videos usually are far less than 1 GB (8mins = 360MB @ 720p).
As far as I know about YouTube, it usually only limits video length. As soon as you become a partner you can upload more than 15mins. This one might be outdated though.
 
Hedlund, the other day a video that I shared in this thread I had to go up 5 times, tried without compressing it first and then probe with several ways to render it, even when it seemed that Mr. youtube it published, really sucks sometimes
