ATI vs nVidia performance and quality / render

Hi, I open this thread to know if there's really a difference in render quality between ATI and nVidia cards.
I have a ATI HD 5850 and else with full details I don't have the quality I see on most screenshots and videos.

A friend has just changed for a nVidia card and perfs are way better than me.
My config : Core i5 2500K @stock, 8GB RAM, ATI 5850
His config : Core 2 Duo E8400 @stock, 4GB RAM, Geforce 560Ti

The 5850 has almost the same perfs in most games vs the 560Ti, but here he has twice FPS than me with a smaller CPU.

Can someone post a screenshot with full details and FPS with a nVidia and an ATI card, too see if there's really a big difference ?

My config is: Core 2 Duo E6600 @3200, 6Gb RAM, WinXP, Sapphire AMD Radeon 7850-OC with 2048Mb. Catalyst 12.4. Vsync=NONE
FPS is always about 50. Usually 40-50.
I tried to change settings to low and set lowest screen resolution (800x600). And anyway I got only ~50FPS.

Try to set at Max and...

... got artefacts and the same 40-50 FPS (VSync is OFF\NONE). And it's the same 40-50 I got in max screen resolution (1920x1200).

And as I see, my CPU is not used at full load. I have asked friend with nVidia card and they said they CPU loaded at 100% (on all cores).
My CPU loaded only ~75-80%

@Warlock

There's something not quite right there, @ 800x600 and LOW settings I get ~270FPS (370 with mirrors off, can't tell from your picture) whilst TaskManager claims ~27% CPU usage. Admittedly my pic is of a 60's car rather than the FormulaMaster but also I'm not quite on lowest settings (MED tex detail, 4xAF and special effects LOW).

Although my CPU is better (i3-2120) but vidcard is worse (8800GTS 512GB), I'm pretty sure my old CPU (E5200@3.3GHz) which isn't too different to yours wouldn't have been much below 200FPS.

Also a 2GB vidcard and XP (32bit I assume?) isn't a good idea, do you run any other modern games, how well do they fare? Whilst IMO your CPU is holding your vidcard back a bit it should be capable of better performance than you seem to be getting. Barring some sort of driver conflict atm, in order to make the most out of your nice new 7850 I think you're going to have to go to say W7 64bit and then maybe a nice CPU upgrade later on.

Just done a little checking forum user MarcG has same vidcard as you and E8400@3GHz (but on W7 64bit) and he seems pretty pleased with the results.

Warlock to have exactly the same settings, can you tell me what time in rF you did these screenshots ?

Did you mean lap time or time when I did screens?
I run only test laps and do not try to set best lap.
All screens I did today while trying different settings (B85 installed)

@MJP

rFactor2 did not use DirectX10 or 11, only DirectX9. So, WinXP is still good. I did not have any troubles with other games. DeadSpace2, CoD (latest), Arma2 and so on...
So, I don't think the reason is my CPU or WinXP.

I think just the game is a little buggy.

Hello
I ve made some test lately, monitored a rfactor2 session on gpuz,i have a 6990 and i ve found that crossfire is still broken for me on rf2 on whatever driver settings i use :( , the first gpu won't pass 70% of usage too

I also noticed that rf2 see only 732 MB video memory.

I have ATI 6770 1GB. Drivers v12.4.

Mine only sees 454 MB video memory.

Ati 5770 1 GB , catalyst 12.3 and 8.9 driver. on win7 utlimate 64bit

I have the same issue you guys are listing with a 7950 catalyst 12.4

Hope they get it sorted before release, I built this computer specifically for rf2

Seems I can fix my troubles.

I've looked at '\UserData\Log' and find it contained folder 'Shaders'. And seems like this folder contain some compiled vertex and pixel shaders. Maybe here something is going wrong that makes Rf2 crazy.

So, I just remove two folders with all content inside:
'UserData\Log' and 'UserData\player'

and let rFactor2 to create it again.

After that I got FPS increase at low graphics settings (135 FPS) and about 55-60 FPS at maximum graphics settings for windowed 800x600x32.

I've little decrease settings, set 1920x1200x32 and got about 60-70 fps. It is much better than it was before.
And even visual I see more perfect image on screen than it was before.

So, if your got poor image quality, visual bugs or low FPS - try to remove folders that I said above. I think it will work even if you delete only 'UserData\Log' folder

Hello chaps, first post so here goes.
Been mucking around trying to get more frames as have most here.
Loaded up RadeonPro and had a bit muck around.
The setting I had the best result with was the spoof toggle, made a big difference and I mean a big diff for me.
Better quality and better fps.

running i7 6950 cfx

:)

install RadeonPro ,go to tweaks tab ,and at the bottom there she blows.

"spoof video adaptor id"

Seems like it tells the game your running an nvidia card.

It works very well for me deak1944. Shadows on full now without the errors.

Colours are also different.:)
