I think boost and turbo lag is missing from 1988 because carrera4 originaly made that mod for F1C if im not mistaken, and it was due to that sim limitations. It does not mean it is realistic. Now in rf2 we have opportunity to rectify F1C shortcomings. Modelling boost and turbo lag in 1988 would boost (pardon the pun) this mod to another level of realism and awesomness.
After testing 1988 further. I have come to conclusion that existing engines respond like 3.5 atmospheric engines would. So maybe aparat from Turbo engines they do not need to be updated. And regarding turbos they should be copy/pasted from 1986 (granting permission from original author) Because in reality those were the same engines Honda, Ferrari, Zakspeed, BMW (in 1988 Megatron) and Motori Moderni. But with reduced levels of boost. So perhaps boost 1-4 for 1988 mod
I haven't done any work on the '88 cars yet. When the '88 cars are updated they will be added to the historic version. There will likely be no more changes to the Championship edition. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2295224315 The '88 engines are mostly tamed down versions of the '86 engines, so they will definetely have their physics and sound based on the new '86 engines. '88 was restricted to only 2.5 bar of boost.
Tiny error spotted in CE eddition The loading screen of Austrian GP has wrong track map. It is the map of modern Spielberg not historic. Everything other regarding that track is fine. Aparat from loading screen. (do not misunderstand my comments. They are all written not to critisize, but to help to make this already awesome mod even better) And Thank you very much for all your efforts. This mod has all potentials to became legendary.
Yep, thanks for pointing that. As for all the little details like this, we would do that for the historical version later. The same decision is for stuff like car icons etc.. First we need to fix and concentrate on major updates then all little stuff will be corrected. Np Cheers
Quickly tested the '86 car......... well.. now I understand why I'll never be a F1 driver.. managing the massive turbolag and his devastating HP output is beyond my capabilities. the only way to do that was to mimic AI behaviour: telegraphic throttle input but this distract me from braking and turning....... damn that thing goes fast!
I certainly does haha. Power to weight ratio with driver and 30kg fuel in Q trim: F1 2020 - Mercedes W11: 1200bhp/Tonne F1 1986 - Benetton B186: 2200bhp/Tonne For learning the car, I would put the car in race trim, lowest boost setting and hard tyres. Then gradually up the boost as you become use to it. That being said, there are some changes coming which should help with the car handing, especially at high boost settings. At the moment the car center of gravity is a bit too far forward - this is exacerbated with a low fuel load. This makes the car twitchy and difficult to save if the rear steps out of line. Coincidentally, the Benetton team had the same problem early in the season, and proceeded to move the CoG as rearwards as possible to improve the handling.
@RoWo , yes it is still alive no stress. The fact is that @doddynco and i we are a bit busy in our personnal life for now. As soon as we can get back to business, things will move again Cheers
Hi guys, just to give you a status. Since some month now, i was very busy with personnal work. (A new house to build) Now, i still have much to do in my house but the evenings are free. So i have restart the graphical updates of the 86 cars. Now not only Benetton are done but also Williams, Ferrari, Brabham and Arrows are now ready. I precise that this is only about graphical updates. As i'm doing this with @doddynco , the wait is not over and it's a very big work to do in our free times. (As all modders lol ) I'll post some wip pics when i can. Cheers
Congratulations on the new home! Looking forward to this project when you finish my friend. Thank you
Really like it a lot. Hopefully Studio 397 will add some spark effects soon as this mod screams for them
The more I play the with the 86 season cars the more I fall in love with them. Just had a race on the 76 Kyalami track and 7 laps in I t-boned a spinning car ahead and wheels, suspension parts and wings were flying everywhere! Just as things should be
