I'm looking to upgrade to a new PC, but I can play games in the control room at my work so I thought something like this would be handy Processor 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0) Operating System English Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 BIT) Display 14.1" WideHD+ (1600x900) WLED with TrueLife Memory1 8GB2 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz Hard Drive 500GB 7,200rpm SATA 3Gb/s HDD Optical Drive DVD+/-RW (DVD, CD read and write) Video Card 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M Alienware laptop Cheers for any advice Allan
OK, I should have been more specific lol, what I mean is, would it run at the games full capacity with all features maxed out.
Probably not all maxed because rF2 is not very well optimized right now. But since the resolution (1600x900) is pretty low you should still get decent performance.
Don't hold your breath for that kind of optimizations (just saying so you won't be unplesantly surprised sometime later)
I was initially looking at this one at £2300 which would be a bit more future proof, but at that price I would expect it to run rF2 while still powering a city in the background Processor 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3740QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.7GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0) Operating System English Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 BIT) Display 18.4" WideFHD (1920 x 1080) WLED LCD Memory1 16GB2 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz Hard Drive 500GB 7,200rpm SATA 3Gb/s HDD Optical Drive BluRay Combo (Blu-ray read only, DVD, CD read & write) Video Card Dual 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 675M SLI™ Warranty 1 yr Next Day In-Home Hardware Support Advertised System Weight 11.93 lbs
The problem is that running a laptop for gaming is a bit tough as gaming GPU's aren't as powerful in laptops as they are in PC's. The 650M is about 10 tiers or more below the top GPU's for PC's and the 675M is 8 tiers below. In comparison the 650M is about equal to a GTS 450 and the 675M is equal to a 465. The reason I say about is because the exact GPU of 650M is not listed on the chart I use anywhere, so I am guessing a little based on other cards. You could look up the information yourself at tomshardware.com here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html
+1 that would never run rF2 full-tilt in your dreams let alone reality. CPU/motherboards/memory/GPU laptop all lose performance to a degree Sata and SSD will bench slower. You are paying for high performance portability. Sorry for being so blunt but if you want to run rF2 flat out build a mid range gamer and leave the Lappie for BF3.
Yeah well I don't want sugar coating and have you disappointed. I have 2500K@4.5GHz with GTX570 SOC and I am not 100% happy and certainly cant run it all bells and whistles, pretty close.
I think then the best route for me would be a new tower for home and a mid range lappie for work, I thought it was a longshot trying to kill two birds with one stone,...cheers lads

NO It is a standard PSU with standard amp, probably 18 and no safety rated features. For those reasons you want , NO NEED a better power supply and Miditower imho. At the very least these......... http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_31&products_id=21792 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_220&products_id=20683 I would swap the 3770 out for a 3570K + High performance cooler for same money ( NO MORE ) Then you may as well fit a ATX motherboard for more breathing room ( hardly any more ) Then upgrade memory to 1600-1866MHz ( hardly any more ) Everything else is fine. edit: Sorry you would need the dearer PSU to have 2 6x pin power ( GTX670 uses 2 ) The 525W only has one and you don't want to use add-on connectors imo. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_220&products_id=20273

mate any of these midi boxes with hi-end components is going to struggle with cooling IMHO. Even the best ones that cost 100s are inferior to a good gaming case. BTW: Last info you get of me I sick of getting slapped for having different opinions so I won't post any more.
