Released RC Update 3 + Race Against Unowned Content Feature

Oh dear, did not fix it! Tried it twice, no joy so rebooted PC, still no joy. Wondered if it may work with Steam offline, so set to offline mode... It works! Im into RF2 but now im offline! So went back to Steam Online mode and.... RF2's broken again, cant get in, just CDT's on loading screen. This is a weird one for sure. Anyone else getting this?

 

It might be some issue with the cloud files.

Nope, not solved it, Cheers anyway! But there is nothing for it to update, it gets past that and just closes, gone! Not even in processes. Just wont start. Dunna maybe I've got a mod conflicting with new RC build. Gunna try switching back to normal build

 

What I saw. When I launch rf2 it launches Logitech Profiler. In RC it never closes Logitech Profiler after I exit game from menu and Steam still think that rf2 running.

Also, I got blank page in new content section in RC. All four tabs show no components.


What I found there was cmpReport.txt in UserData that reports to KS_KZ_EU_2021 vehicle, that had no mas files, just bugged .mft with strange symbols in its installed folder. I assume that vehicle does not using anymore and was replaced with KS_KZ_EU_2022 but still somehow persist in my game. Even if game tells that component failed to verify, removed from inventory. With opt-out build there was no problem to open content manager in-game. After deleting that vehicle with modmgr.exe I finally got working game.

 

The ability to race against cars you do not have offline is really nice and a good advertisement for said cars.
Just tested the McLaren 720S I own vs a full field of Ferrari GT3 I don't and it worked great!
Now (as a temporary mesure) I need to find a suitable non BTCC car to race against all BTCC cars, none of which I have.

 

Luckily I can get back in now in non RC, but RC is not happening at all! My cmpReport.txt says this:

So I'll try uninstalling all that lot.

 

There are checkboxes in content manager in Store section where you can select several items. Also, there arrows to see list of all versions of that item. When I check several items to uninstall and click to an arrow to see list of versions of other component previous selection resets. It is annoying behaviour.

Example.
Check Aston Martin Vantage GT3 car, then click to an arrow to unfold list of versions of Aston Martin Vantage GTE car. When you click on it, its resets selection from GT3 car and checks GTE car instead of just showing list of versions.

That's a pretty depressing list of problems with content. I'm surprised they released this without fixing the underlying problems of having old content still installed/not deleting all old content properly, because it's just compounding the issues. I am also of the opinion, that reasoning given in the article for why old versions are retained (that you initiated some upgrade), isn't correct. I have old versions of the Aston Martin GT3, and I'm 100% certain I've never initiated any upgrades to that.

Plus, now I'm on the horns of a dilemma. I'm opted into the betas on Steam, and with high priority. That means, when I launch Steam, I don't think I can stop it doing the update from RC2 to RC3. And I think RC3 is badly bugged.

 

I only had to find a few mods which cover all of those lines to delete the lot, not too big a prob in the end!

HAHAHA!!!! This is freaking awsome! There's not much I don't own in RF2, just a couple of bits, one being the FORMULA PRO, so installed that, and sure enough, there it was availible to race as an opponent! So I set up a race at Nurburg GP with 18 F-PRO's and just two FERRARI GT3's (me and an A.I.). Stuck the A.I. GT3 at the fron and me at the back, with all the F-PRO's in between! By lap 3 they came up to lap us, and none of them hit me in the back whilst overtaking. Went and looked at replay and chose to focus on the GT3 at start of grid, and none of them hit him either! I love this, this is freaking awsome!!!!!

 

Can you start offline an all AI race on a track you do not own, just for the purpose of spectating and as a demo of the track ?
That would be awesome for previewing not owned tracks without the need to find a server with it online.

 

Do server admins have to own all the content or can you setup a server with content you do not own?

 

I would ASSUME you just start it like your going to drive but then turn it over to the AI right at the start. A is the default key I think.

 

Liking the new settings with new controller assist! While it still has a tendency to yank your car a little too hard into a straight line, messing with some of the settings helped me tone that effect down a bit.
One important thing with the new assist is to treat your input as the direction you want your car to go in, so no need for mid turn corrections since the assist does it for you.
Being able to change other settings for the old assist is also great! I'm glad that there are options so people can choose what they prefer.

 

There's no mention of the log files (the ones used by Log Analyzer) being "fixed" so that offline championships can again work. I won't be able to test for another half a day, so if someone else can take a look that would be nice.

 

Nope, just tried it by installing one of the few tracks I dont own. You can install it, and find it in the track list, but its greyed out and you can't select it. Thought that would be the case as they said so in the release notes, but just thought I'd check. It would be very cool if you could select it and go there but not be able to race, just spectate. Would be a great way of getting a taste of wether you wanna buy it or not, a bit like a guided tour, but S397 would'nt have to pay a tourguide!

 

I haven't purchased the 992 Cup car yet.....yet....there it is! Brilliant!(even though this was never a priority of mine)
