Hi I have been using the new build 240 since it came out, but tonight my wheel just stopped working.

It did not stop mid race, after a few races a new session starts but on leaving garage no response from wheel or pedals. The pedals are also dfgt btw.

Nothing happened at all to trigger this, but the odd thing is the wheel is still 100% ok and operational. In windows its status is fine, in the calibrate tool and in the logitech tool i can press the pedals and turn wheel and see the inputs on the screen. Everythings fine with the wheel.

So i reinstalled a completely clean new install of rf2, and sadly the problem remains. RF2 just don't see the wheel anymore. In the controls settings screen there is no response on screen. Although if in garage, i unplug usb the game detetcs is and says so in chat windows, and then again when i plug back in usb.

Its very strange. I know the wheel is not faulty because it works in other things. Even with a completely fresh install it still doesn't work.

btw On the Update tab of the launcher, there is a verify button. Before I reinstalled I clicked that and many files were listed as 'failed verification' - including a load of wheel settings files in the Controllers directory. That's what made me do a clean reinstall. Strange thing is on the clean install verify does exactly the same thing. I suspect there is nothing wrong with the files infact, they look to be present and uncorrupted on both installs.

Be glad of any help, I have been trying many things and am pretty stuck with it now.

When you're looking at your control settings, does the game pick up your wheel/pedals if you try to assign a control?

    Hi Lazza,

Sorry for my slow reply, I have hurt my ankle quite badly and been offline for a while.

Actually, I kind of have the wheel working again now - but the force feedback is just HORRIBLE and nothing like what I had before originally, which was just a default install and then i turned steering sensitivity down to 0 and the game was fine.

But this is on a new install - i had installed 'logitech gaming software' to try and get somewhere with my original problem, and then I reinstalled rf2 over my existing install which just screwed it all up.

Then more fresh clean installs to new folders, and the wheel STILL did not work. However I clicked the 'Detect' button on the controls screen and voila it recognised it again! I had never seen or used that detect button before... i guess if I just pressed that on my old install before i screwed it up all would have been fine, ah well.

So I am glad of that, but now I have this horrific FFB problem which really renders the game totally unplayable. I have tried many many things but im getting totally bizarre FFB no matter what I try. The steering is also different.

In the megans in the ISR server, I could barely even turn the car enough to get out of garage without hitting pit wall opposite. I can improve this by changing the steering range down to about 300deg. However the concerning thing is that before I never had to change anything (the default steering range is 612) so this indicates something is seriously different now htan it was before either with the wheel or the game ,I am not totally sure which to be honest.

I will make a different post about the FFB prob with more details.

    Thanks for your help.

So it sounds like when you installed the new build, you installed over your old one, and removed your controller settings simply in the process.

Regarding the FFB, have you returned the settings in the profiler and the software to what they were before you deleted them?

    Hi Tim,

Well yes I have been using a file comparer called examdiff to compare the various old and new ini files, and changed everything to match but of course because I reinstalled over the top of my original install in the meantime then as you say I could/would have overwritten the original settings anyway so i could have nuked the settings that worked before and my comparisons are meaningless.

About the FFB, well I only found out about this logitech gaming software profiler a few days ago when I had my problems so I actually don't know what the settings where before on the wheel. I just bought rfactor, and I got the wheel used off ebay plugged it in changed the steering senstitivty=0 and that was it everything was good. So it is possible the previous owner of the wheel changed its settings which I now will never know. When I installed the logitech profiler the settings were default - everthing on 100% wether or not the installer overwrites the wheel settings to the default I don't know.

Either way, I do not think this is the prob, as I have spent hours trying every combinations of settings possible and even the best result is still horrible.

The best I have had to running in an undumaged car, is morelike a car you have put in the wall heavily 3 times, and he game makes the steering go dead etc and it starts knocking and clanking away away - thats the best I can get it in an uncrashed car!

    This is from my controller.ini
    [ Controllers ]
Device Name 1="Logitech Driving Force GT USB"
    Controller 1 Axis X Zone="(0.004074,0.490772,0.497917,0.505127,0.995590)"
    Controller 1 Axis Y Zone="(0.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis Z Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis RX Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis RY Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis RZ Zone="(0.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis S0 Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis S1 Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"

See the first line? well that's how it was left after last nights attempts to get the car drivable - and I could drive it pretty decent but FFB was horrible still. With other attempts with different settings (profile,FFB smoothing, car FFB multiplier etc) was much worse still, could even get around a few corners and car veered leftright allmany of craziness.

On my original installed (which may have had controller.ini overwritten- but i never changed the original anyway) looks like this

    Device Name 1="Driving Force GT"
    Controller 1 Axis X Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis Y Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis Z Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis RX Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis RY Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis RZ Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis S0 Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"
    Controller 1 Axis S1 Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.000000)"

If I use those settings on the new install it is just undrivable.

Also note this subtle difference : Device Name 1="Driving Force GT"
Orig install it says : Device Name 1="Driving Force GT"
New install it says : Device Name 1="Logitech Driving Force GT USB"
Dunno if that means anything, prob not. Its the same wheel and it's always been USB.

In the logitech profiler I have
    Overall effects =102%
    Spring effect=0%
    Damper effect=0%
    Enable Center Spring=Y
    Center Spring=0%
    Combined pedals=N
    Deg of rotation=900deg
    Allow game to change settings=Y

I am pretty lost with this now, really appreciate any help.

btw in the above controller ini's, in my fresh new install I also changed line 1 to match the old one like so...

    Controller 1 Axis X Zone="(0.000000,0.500000,0.500000,0.500000,1.00000 0)"

Awful results, i have tried many many variations of everything relevant. So the strange numbers in that line in my previous post will be a result of that - and that variation is the best i have gotten so far but is still screwed up beyond beleif.

I can paste the whole ini file into the thread if you would like.

    Your profiler settings look fine.

The steering range (or amount of steering you're getting) seems a bit strange - if reducing the wheel range helps you get out of the garage, presumably you could have turned the wheel more to get the same steering before. Changing the wheel range doesn't change the maximum lock you can achieve in the game. Are you sure you've disabled the various driving aids etc that could interfere? Also if you've managed to turn off "Steer ratio speed" in the controller.ini (which is designed to help you turn more sharply at low speeds) that could be the problem, but I think that can only done by manually editing it. And to cover all the bases, if you're using a clean install it's also possible you just haven't restored a previous setup that had more steering lock in it.

FFB, first, that line you're comparing is basically the same. 0.04xxx is basically 0, 0.49xxx is basically 0.5, as is 0.50xxx, and 0.99xxx is basically 1. They are close enough to essentially make no difference. Don't let all the extra numbers confuse you!

It's difficult to work out what might be wrong without a more specific description of what the FFB is now doing. Posting the first half of the controller.ini [ Force Feedback ] section may help, but again presumably it's largely default with your fresh install.

Thank you lazza for such a detailed reply. Sadly I have concluded now that the wheel has developed a fault although earlier I was vary skeptical that the wheel was broken it does appear now to be the case.

Thanks very much for your assistance :)
