I'm looking to purchase an new, wider monitor and I want to make sure rF2 supports the size and if my video card will support it. No sense getting a wide screen only to find I can't run it at a good fps.

    I have a GTX 1070 with 8gig.
    I'm looking at a 34" wide screen and it runs at 3440 X 1440.

What sort of fps should I expect ? I know if varies by things like what track, how many other cars I have set to be visible, and how high a graphics setting I choose. I just don't know how hard rF2 works a video card, vs some of the popular high end first person games.

I'm on a 1070ti with 3 triples (totalling 5760x1080, 25% more pixels than you and with multiview switched on which is an extra hit) and get around 120fps on most content with probably medium settings and good conditions (not night or rain).

I would expect it to be perfectly playable, you may need to lower settings for some occasions and maybe some combinations of cars/track/conditions might lower your FPS but should be manageable.

The game should cope with any resolution you throw at it.

My other option is a 16:9 ratio 32", which will look like a TV at the back of my desk, but it would 2560 X 1440. Probably easier to get higher frame rates. I guess the question is, does rF2 need things like 144hz refresh ?

Like Lazza said, also run 5760x1080 with a gtx1070ti, and it's fine...with some settings tweaks.
Perf is around 90-110 most of the time during racing but keep in mind you will have only 45-65 at the very start of a big grid race.

About whether or not rf2 need to run high fps... here a little video.
Don't take all he said as gospel but it might give you some interesting insights.

    John,

You may want to consider a 49" Super Ultra Wide in either 1080p (3840x1080) or 1440p (5120x1440). It's basically two 16x9 monitors put together. It's supposed to be easier to setup than a triple screen and works with more games.

And you definitely should look for 120, 144 or 165 Hz refresh rate.

    Thanks, Kahel.
The video mirrored with I found moving from a 60hz Dell Ultrasharp to an AOC 144hz monitor. I really couldn't tell any difference. This time, I'm shooting for a wider screen so I can have a wider Field of View. 24" just doesn't show ,much outside the wheels of an F1 car and I often can't see my mirrors. I have to use the virtual ones.

    I have a 29" ultrawide 21/9 format 2560x1080.
Its not enough to show sidemirrors, without really changing the fov too much.
Some cars I can see the left mirror.

here's an example of my view
