Hi, Just got a new pc and monitor and I have 3 cable to link the monitor to pc:

    1/ DVI
    2/ HDMI
    3/ DP

My question is what is best as they will all connect to the pc.

    Thanks Paul

That is my advice too, but, if you had all 3 cables, my preference order would be: DP, HDMI, DVI

DP is the best, then dual-link DVI. I only consider those two, everything else is inferior.

In your described circumstance, there is no difference. All three are digital transmission standards so signal quality is not an issue. If you need to hook the PC up to an HDTV on occasion, go with HDMI. If you have a cat that likes to roam around behind your PC & monitor among the cables, go DVI (because it's attached with 2 machine screws it can't easily be yanked out). Then again I have a Google Chromecast dongle that barely survived my 18 pounder exiting from behind the TV in a panic. I can only imagine what would have happened to the TV if the thing was screwed into it like a DVI connector rather than an HDMI. If you have other considerations you've not mentioned, google "DVI-D vs HDMI vs Display Port".

It depends on the resolution and refresh rate of the monitor you'll be connecting.

Up to 1920x1080 @ 60Hz it makes no difference, however if you want to run 1920x1080 @ 120Hz then only DP or dual-link DVI will do. HDMI does not (currently, to my knowledge) support greater than 60Hz at 1920x1080.

Good spot, it's wrong, checked and max res for dual link dvi is 2560x1600, my bad. After TechAde's post I wanted to know for sure which I had since I should be using dual link for 120hz at 1920x1080... and I am

For stuff like 120 or 144 Hz and/or 2560 x 1440/1600, then you want Displayport/Mini-Displayport or Dual-link DVI (preferably DP/Mini-DP, and make sure it's v1.2 or later). Either of those 3 will be just fine.
