Something is brewing in the land of rFactor 2. There is a hint of anticipation in the air at a selection of the world’s best circuits. Renault is amping up production of virtual Clio bodywork in preparation for a surge in demand over the next couple of months. That’s right; the Virtual World Series by Renault is back for an action-packed third edition!

The previous season was nothing short of incredible. A switch to the 4 cylinder Renault Clio produced some of the greatest competition ever seen at RaceDepartment. It featured insanely tight wheel-to-wheel racing, amazing battles for supremacy and a selection of battered and bruised machines at the end of the season. There was something truly magical about a packed grid of evenly-matched Clios doing battle on some of the greatest tracks around the globe.

Our defending champion is Jimi Hughes. The supremely talented racer managed to keep a cool head surrounded by 29 swarming drivers each trying to arrest his ascendancy. It was a modest beginning to the second season for Hughes as Jan Wikstrom claimed a sterling win in the opening race at Mid-Ohio. However, Hughes was simply unstoppable for the remainder of the season and took the title with a 17 point buffer. He was, however, under intense pressure from eventual runner-up, Davy Vandevenne. The two front-runners locked horns on numerous occasions, with their rivalry reaching a crescendo at Heartland Park Topeka in a desperate 15 minute showdown. Miroslav Davidovic nabbed third position in the standings at the season’s end with a late flood of points over the concluding rounds.

Launching on the success of our first two seasons, we welcome you to the third iteration of the Virtual World Series by Renault hosted by RaceDepartment. As mentioned, we will continue the legacy created by the Renault Clio. The weapon-of-choice is quick, agile and proven to generate close and exciting racing. Of course, the front-wheel-drive machine offers beginner and experienced drivers accessibility to compete in a fun yet professional championship with the eyes of the sim racing world cast upon the five rounds of competition.

The third edition of the Virtual World Series by Renault promises to be another epic installment of one of our most anticipated leagues. Be sure to keep a watchful eye on our rFactor 2 league section to secure your place on the grid for this season. The time has come to fire up your Renault Clio. Let’s go racing!
