Software using plugins/mods usually has a safe mode to help find out whether the issue comes from a plugin/mod or from the base application. Many issues are derived from mods. There should be a safe mode which disables any non-official mod content. Maybe even set hidden settings to default values. This mode would be selected when starting and it wouldn't save anything to disk, it would only affect the current run.
