At the moment the "best bang for your bucks" should be the rift S, or even the Quest, if you consider that now you can tether it to a PC just like the S. Yes the sound of Rift S leave a lot to be desired but it is an easy fix .
This time in history VR seems to have come to remain, so I hope in the next future , software and hardware will be thought in perspective, it is quite clear that modern hardware is not up to the task, so I'm not so confident that expensive headset of today are a future proof investment. I think it's better to jump in VR in the middle ground, but everyone's pocket is different.
