I am familiar with editing the rfm file but I am not familiar with how to edit the file without messing up my existing vmod. I can extract the rfm, edit it, then repack it but my mod manager says I have a damaged mod. I understand why it says this so can someone explain the proper procedures for editing a server rfm? Or do I need to make a new vmod every time I make an rfm change?

It's best to make a new Vmod with the new changes in the rfm file.

And also rename the rfm file everytime. Especially if clients already have the Vmod and you give them an updated version.
Because there could be conflicts if you don't rename the rfm file.

    Have fun!

we seem to have problems the other way around, using custom rfm's seem to cause 'mod cannot be installed' errors upon join.

Or I suspect it does this due to the custom rfm. i'm not sure, as with everything rf2 :-(

Do custom rfm file cause errors?

And if so, how to tackle it? write/edit a new one for each event?

Any info would be appreciated, getting fed up with rf2 once again.

I used to get a lot of 'mod cannot be installed' or 'damaged mod' and the way I have gotten around it is to always rename the .rFm and its icon.dds and rename the vmod file to something new everytime i create a vmod...

    example:

    rfm and icon dds...
    formula1modRD1 (original)
    formula1modRD1a (new rfm)

    Vmod...
    formula1modRD1 (original)
    formula1modRD1a (new Vmod)

I also have no gaps in my names (gaps was an issue awhile ago which I think has been fixed but I have stuck with it)

this stopped all my problems so I have just gone with it ever since...hope this helps

    Thanks Jim.

Ignoring the icons would be ok as well I reckon? we don't use them anymore.

So are you using a custom rfm stored somewhere, use it, then rename it?
Because renaming the default rfm don't works for me.

we are using a custom rfm so I should have used it, then rename it and rename (edit) vmod and bingo?
