Hello, I would like to buy rfactor 2 for my rather old pc. Since this pc still runs windows xp I cannot try the demo of rfactor 2. I would like your opinion if my pc is able to run rfactor 2 in low resolution (1024x768) and with low details, before I upgade to windows 8.1. My specs are: AMD Athlon X2 5050e, 2x 2.8GHz (overclocked) 4 GB RAM DDR2 800 GIGABYTE GeForce GT 730 2048MB GDDR5 64bit PCI-E 2 (I bought this recently) Thank you for your help.
I was probably a bit unclear. Yes, I know that xp is not supported. But if my PC can run rF2 with acceptable fps then I would install window 8.1 in order to be able to play the game. Otherwise I would stay with xp and forget about rF2 until I buy a new pc.
Running on my 2nd PC old Q660 4GB and an old GTX 460 with many Settings on high just shadows mid reflections low @1600x1050 with about 9 AI and keep 60 FPS on Win7 64.
It should work, check my specs under the avatar. You might be in for some concessions here and there to keep it smooth but it should be ok.
Yeah, should work, but don't expect max settings to be an option... My back-end is 8 years old, apart from the GPU. It has lasted me well and I am still able to do max settings - a GPU can do a lot for you.
Runs Best With – 3.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or 3.0 GHz AMD Athlon II x2 or better – 4GB RAM or more – nVidia 250 GTS or ATI/AMD 4870 or better – 512MB Video Memory or more – Microsoft Windows Vista 64bit, Windows 7 64bit, 8, 10 – DirectX 9.0c (included with installer) – 2008 C++ SP1 Runtimes (included with installer) – 4GB Hard Drive Space or more – Internet Connection – Steering wheel and pedals System Requirements – 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 or 2.4 GHz AMD Athlon x2 – 2GB RAM – nVidia 8600 GT or ATI/AMD 3850 – 256MB Video Memory – Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7, 8, 10 – DirectX 9.0c (included with installer) – 2008 C++ SP1 Runtimes (included with installer) – 4GB Hard Drive Space – Internet Connection Windows XP no longer supported. http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/rf2features/
CPU will be the likely bottleneck and may cause some problems when running races with many AI cars, but it should be able to run rF2 at acceptable fps with properly adjusted graphic settings and less than huge grid sizes.
id say wait till you get a better pc @whiteshadow Runs Best With – 3.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or 3.0 GHz AMD Athlon II x2 or better – 4GB RAM or more – nVidia 250 GTS or ATI/AMD 4870 or better – 512MB Video Memory or more – Microsoft Windows Vista 64bit, Windows 7 64bit, 8, 10 – DirectX 9.0c (included with installer) – 2008 C++ SP1 Runtimes (included with installer) – 4GB Hard Drive Space or more – Internet Connection – Steering wheel and pedals my system specs are better than this and it runs shyte!! let alone minimum requirements that thread is deceiving
Thanks for your answers. I guess I have to upgrade my PC. Since I am on a tight budget I cannot afford some high end components. I will probably buy the following: Intel Core i3-4330, 2x 3.50GHz (dual core is enough for me since rF2 only supports dual core) Gigabyte GA-H81M-HD3 Mainboard Crucial DIMM 4GB, DDR3-1600, CL11 I still want to use my video card (GIGABYTE GeForce GT 730 2048MB GDDR5 64bit PCI-E 2) which I bought recenly. I would like to run rF2 with medium settings and 10-15 AI cars on track. Is this possible with the new components. I am not sure if the new components are really a big improvement over my old system (see post 1). I am grateful for your opinions. Thanks
I have a GT630 on my office computer along with an i5-4440. I normally run it in a window at 1280x720 because I am not actually racing. If I lower all of the settings to the minimum I can get 60fps but that is on an empty track. I don't race on this machine so I really don't spend much time analyzing the framerate and attempting to extract the most out of it. If I get a chance I will set it up to run fullscreen 1920x1080 on minimum settings and do a 20 AI race and see what I can get. Or maybe I will just jump on the VEC server as a spectator and see how it does there. We normally have 10 or so drivers on the server practicing. Blagger, you can stick the i3 (BTW, rF2 supports more than 2 cores) in there but you will still be limited by that GPU. Edit: Just jumped on our server when 2 drivers were on. I am running in a 1280x720 window with literally every option set to the lowest, AAx0, HDR On and I am getting 28 - 35 fps. I assume the 730 is very close in perf to the 630. If so, I would scrap that card and focus on a better card before bothering with the rest of your system. I got 60fps with my GT630 at another track with 0 AI but it seems to be very track dependent.
Noel, thank you very much. Maybe I buy a GeForce GTX 650 Ti. Would this be a significant improvement over my GT730?
