ok (real quick) i put the third card in fired up rfactor with the same settings I had with running the one card (res 5040x1050)
croft practice 370z with 12 ai frames in the pits where roughly 45 out on track hit about 75 to 80 at times that is a very nice improvement :D had to turn hdr off thought the screen was totally washed out almost completely white. Don't have time today to really test just wanted to post my findings so far will have a better go at it tomorrow ;)

Had some time today (finally) to play. I must say Im very happy with my decision to run a third card, Im running the latest driver from ati right now after burner shows 99% usage across all cards temps are perfect. My frames have increased by average 25 frames and thats without any reinstall of the driver and tweaking settings in the ccc. I just put the new card in turned on the computer and went to a race. From time to time i still experience slight stutter but nothing like running 2 cards. I plan to wipe out the drivers and do a fresh install of an earlier driver to see what happens. For some reason when I turn HDR on the screen goes completely white, I think it could be a driver issue. All said and done Im pleased with the performance!

I'm very glad to see another person experience the "adding a 3rd card removes lots of the stutter/mico-stutter introduced when adding a 2nd card" phenomenon

This fix doubled my FPS. 2x460 2GB, max everything, 8xAA, no HDV. averaging about 45-60fps depending on the track, over 5936x1080

This thread is old and probably of no interest anymore but I gave this fix a try. It seems to have made my SLI performance rise to the level of my single card performance. So it did do something. SLI is not worse than single card. But I still see no need to use my second card.

    2x560ti

Anybody want to buy a barely used 560ti? Just kidding... for now.

What's so strange is when I was using my gtx460's I was getting at least 70% fps boost.

You can see from my "just kidding for now" that selling is on my mind. But I just keep thinking that if and when the SLI gets done correctly, along with the mythical optimization, that what I have will be good enough. I mean really, 2x560s ought to give very good performance. Not the the best but very good.

I judge "very good" to mean the ability to turn on HDR, high shadows, reflections, and multiview and not drop below 60 FPS in the presense of say, 15 opponents at 5040x1050. I can almost do that now without HDR and multiview using only one card. So I cling to the hope that good SLI implementation will get me there. Am I being too hopeful?

    This is realy insane.
Just ugraded my rig with 3 monitors and 2 7970 oc.i7-2007K4,4Ghz 8gig RAM
Limerock at 5880x1080 one card 15 to 20 fps unplayable
crossfire 40-45 frames AFR friendly set no impact at all.
GPU crossfire not fully used one about 70-85 the other 90-95%
CPU hangs arround no one over 50% hyperthread off no change
ingames settings all reflections of on car on the track
funny nearly the same frames even if I reduce the res 4800x900.
HDR on of quite no effect
anybody with a similar configuration to copare if there is something wrong here?
So there seems to be really something totally wrong in my system or I really should stop playin RF2.

PS R3E all maxed one card unbelivable graphics and solid 50-60 Frames

Is AFR still the best solution?
    I'm using AMD crossfire.

For non-3D SLI, try NV driver v353.30, it should offer almost perfect SLI scaling with the LEGO SLI bits selected in Nvidia Inspector.

Not since quite a while ago. I've owned an HD 6990 (dual-GPU), two 6970s in crossfire, and 3 6950s in trifire but I got rid of them quite a while back.
