Recent Stuttering issues....

Hello all.

Having had consoles of some shape or description most my life I’ve now converted over to PC. Been enjoying R-factor for the last year and more recently R-factor 2.

Just invested in a triple screen set up with the same model of monitor.

All was well until a couple of mates came round the weekend and for some reason the game has developed a stutter where after a few seconds the A.I cars jolt back for a split second.

I thought this might just be Silverstone but it happens on all tracks.

Also happens when I just run one screen.

I’ve had a nose round on the internet and tried a few things but nothing has solved it so far.

Things I have tried so far are as follows

Deleted replays
Turned off road reflection
Changed resolution
Disabled v-sync
Cleared disk space
Reverted to default settings in ccc
Turned down all graphics settings in game
Changed frame rate plr file
Changed auto detail fps
Made sure nothing else is running in task manager

If anyone has any other ideas of things to try then please let me know.

AMD FX 4100 3.6 GHZ QUAD CORE BLACK EDITION CPU UNLOCKED

8GB DDR3 1600MHZ FAST MEMORY (16GB MAX)

GIGABYTE 78LMT-USB3 MOTHERBOARD

Graphics card is HD7850
 
Have you turned down environmental reflections? Also turn down track detail from Full to High or even Medium, and textures to High or Medium too.
 
Did you install any other software on your machine before the stutters started?

A year or two ago, my rFactor 1 was running smooth as silk, then suddenly started having a repeating stutter every 10 seconds or so. Took me forever to track down, but turned out to be that some new backup software I had installed was causing the stutter, apparently the background process for the backup software would check for new things to backup every 10 seconds. I disabled this software when running rF1 and no problems since.
 
All reflections seemed to be pretty heavy to my amd 7850. I also managed to gain 30-40% fps by setting mirrors OFF. My AMD is only 1gb version so I can't use max textures at Silverstone.
 
Try the flush frame rate option in PLR file, also the option for writing replays to hard disk in the same PLR file

I don't believe I installed anything new but I can't be sure any windows updates went on during shut down etc. Suppose I could revert my PC back to an earlier time. Failing that maybe revert back to a earlier graphics driver.

I've tried running at the basic graphics settings and it still does it.

I believe it could be something on my PC but not sure what.

I have over clocked my graphics card but I did that a while ago and everything has been running okay until now.

Try selecting 'GPU' sync in the rfconfig, it's the GUI version of the 'Flush Previous Frame' option in the PLR.

You mention that the AI cars keep seeming to jolt back, have you checked the CPU graph in game (CTRL+C), it should bring up a small green/purple bar graph just below the FPS counter (CTRL+F). Check the purple bar isn't going full right with lots of small spikes below it because that means you're falling out of realtime and the AI behaviour you describe is a classic symptom of this.

Try to use stock settings for your hadware. What does cpu unlocked mean ?

Delete AMD profile manualy. You can find this in AMD driver install folder, calls fuel. There you can find specific profiles like the generall standard and specific ones for games you edit.

I'll have had something similar without any specific reason and after i empty the profile directory and use standard settings with stock hardware settings everything was fine again.

I'm not sure why is that happening but it have had helped to solve this.

Another possibility is. May anybody ad some more AI cars to the grid.

Check if it runs better with less AI Cars.

Not sure what is going on. I edited the flush frame rate last night back to 0 as I must of changed it to 1 previously.

Ran a few games and seemed to be okay.

Will have to try it again tonight to be sure.

Erm... the stuttering could be CPU related, ie something in the background has suddenly decided to do/check something at intervals, or maybe even some malware is at play, or it could be any number of other things. Getting a SSD might not help at all, plus plenty of people are playing this with HDDs without stuttering.

Still, what would I know...
 
Well the stuttering returned last night.

Tried reverting back to previous graphics driver but it made no difference.

Tonight I restored my pc until an earlier date and so far so good, fingers crossed.

Sometimes I swear I'm messing about more than actually racing :rolleyes:
 
Not particularly helpful, but an Intel i7 quad core CPU and nVidia 6xx / 7xx series card(s) are really the only way to go.
 
Im running i5 2500k 16gb ram, 2 gb 6950 ati.

I used to run at high/max on almost everything.

got around 40-60 fps.

Tried low on all except high on shadows and turned of some settings, like road reflection and crowd/movie..

get around 80-100 fps offline .. so much more fun to run at high fps.

Feels so much better with 80+ fps, cant wait until i get a new gpu so I can run with a little bit better graphics.

Not had my PC all that long but feeling it needs upgrading after reading some fps figures.

Can't afford a whole new system though.

Any recommendations?
 
Go in to the PLR and see if your replays are set to write to hard drive or not, it is changed by a simple 1 or 0. This helped me a lot with stuttering, I hope this helps. And I do have a SSD drive which have come down a lot in price of late. Have you tried the VSYNC on in your display options?
