Shadow medium setting give me -20 FPS that make min 41 FPS with GTX 970 3-monitors. Can't play with that. (All full AA 4x). I must set low shadow to get min. 60-65 FPS every track. The problem is 2 fav. cars Skip and BT20 shadow is unrealistic. Shadow area is too small about 1/4 of the real area shadow. It's make these car float on track. For another car I think low shadow setting is OK although It's look like square but the area of shadow is fell correct . Note: Just upgrade from gig 660oc to zotac 970 I have +30-40 FPS gain with the same old i3-2100 3-monitors system. with higher some setting 1) curcuit detail from low to full 2) shadow from none to low 3) AA 2x to 4x 660oc min. 50 Fps ,970 min. 60-65 Fps. I found this Tip from 02-28-12. http://isiforums.net/f/showthread.php/4278-Tip-set-shadow-to-low
The 970 is capable of so much more than what your getting, Looks to me like your bottlenecked by your cpu.
A 970 is like a 780, sometimes close to a 780 Ti (especially overclocked). I feel that you should be getting much higher framerates, well, unless you have many opponents, then that could explain it (also, night time and rain both drop framerates). Can you please let use know your in-game and Nvidia settings? Thank you.

Try setting reflection to low....this is one of the best fps gains you can get. At least imho. But worth a try anyway
Overriding anything in the GPU control panel is pretty much taking everything out of the hands of the software. You got a blue screen from just running a higher setting? That's not really normal. There is clearly a few deeper issues. Though as has been stated, I think your CPU cannot support your GPU. You would need to decrease CPU usage to run well, regardless of how the shadows look.
and beware low shadow settings only work if shadow groups are correctly setup. In our tracks it is not implemented yet since we didn't know how it worked until some months from now. We will try to implement it in future versions. This could also happen with many other third party tracks
really busy right now preparing for lemans and the championship I manage. Probably will not have time to do any modding until August. I want to implement the three other layouts for the next release. I don't think that just a better AI deserves a new version. But havent forgotten about it
