Top work, can't wait. Bit of a shame though... saw a 1970 Can-Am McLaren in the works, and a 1971 Porsche... yet none of the three will match each other.
So far I see the McLaren M8C in the works, the Porsche 917, the Lola Spyder T70 and also a Ferrari 312BP. It would indeed be great if someone goes the extra mile to power balance (maybe slightly ahistorical, but fun) these cars so they can run with each other.
aha! you (and tjc) have uncovered one of the remaining untouched assets (the HG6 undershadow). It wasn't on my current list of issues to fix but I guess it is now, thanks very much for the template! Do you think its an advantage (graphically speaking) putting the wheel shadows into a single undershadow texture like that as opposed to adding additional separate wheel shadow objects for the same purpose? (the technique is demonstrated in ISI's Cobra). An all-in-one undershadow will obviously save on one additional material but as you say it could be fiddly to setup. Separate wheel shadow objects I think would have the advantage of being easy to place accurately in max...
The undershadow on each wheel follow the movement of the wheel (vertically & steering wheel direction). So need separated undershadow for body & for each wheel.
That's an exellent point. The other consideration is the possibility for the tyre widths and track to be changed via upgrade (which is the case with this mod) so I've gone with the extra .gmt option. Getting the placement of the .gmt's right still was not fun.
hope this thing can help you crossply : http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/cg/259/Lola-T70-Spyder-Chevrolet.html
The skin is completed...if anyone is interested here is the download...the dds is packed in a mas file because that is the only way i can make a custom skin appear in game... https://www.dropbox.com/s/dsdktua6zq5l4qc/Billalt3dirty.mas?dl=0
The .mas is only necessary if you have packed something like a suit and/or a helmet, for all to be displayed online.
does not work for me..have tried 100 times following tutorials, trying to create virtual drivers, anything i could think of....it will show the skin name but if you select it it will show only a white skin or the default....the reason i finally figured out how to do it is because the only custom skins i could make show up in game were other people's that were transferred in online sessions and only the ones that were in mas files were the ones i could see....i see you do a lot of skinning with suits and helmets (really nice stuff!!) i am wanting to get into that...is there any way to paint these cars and drivers in 3D?....if so what do i need to be able to do that?...tia
Hmm if it isn't showing individually then it's baffling it shows as a package! It is very important to keep the name very short, we don't have many characters to use. Dirty3_alt.dds should be fine, things get hairy when you then do helmets (_altHelmet.dds) or suits (_altDriver.dds). I have to redo my original packs so everything works fine with the game, these days, but I don't think anybody cares anyway . I have seen people paint in 3D but I don't know about this specifically. It would be a massive timesaver, especially matching lines on weird mapping zones... but you must also use a program that supports it (like newer Photoshops). By the way, thank you very much .
