I have all sorts of odd things like that ( I think connected to having a 3 screen setup )

best change in the intro options (before entering rf2)

you have to copy the config.ini file to rfactor2 main folder, from userdata folder, something like this, I cant remember exactly.
And config.ini must have that line:

CustomVidRes=(1920, 1080) // 1920x1080 is the resolution, change it if your different.

I've not had is crash when changing from the GUI.. The problem I have had is it doesn't remember the settings from one session to another. ViSo is right though. You have to take the config.ini that was generated by the normal game and copy it to the location which DevMode uses. To be more specific, copy <DataPath>\UserData\Config.ini to <Core>\Config.ini. After that, don't ever set the resolution in the GUI. Also, after making a copy of the config.ini, make sure you open it up in notepad and disable HDR. Otherwise DevMode does odd stuff.

    Also, don't confuse <Core>\ with <Core>\Core

Since installing trackmap plugin (I think - one of the ones involving custom d3d listener dll) I've been suffering with CTDs if I change graphics options in game.
