Nosecam seems to give the highest framerate in RF2. It seems to be the better way for now until they (ISI) get things better optimized. I went from 60-75 frame in cockpit view to 100-140 just by transitioning to the nosecam view.
I find the cars in RF2 easier to 'catch' during oversteer moments when I'm driving from the nosecam view. It's not my preferred view (cockpit is), but I'll use it for now since it offers the framerate increase and the mirrors still offer me the ability to monitor if a faster car is coming up from behind so I can get off the racing line.
Sense of speed is directly related to the motion you see. When you have no cockpit, you see more motion. Triple screens are of course the best way to mix both things together, as you have a cockpit, and a decent amount of motion through the extra two screens. Try moving your FOV back (so you see more of the cockpit) and although it's possibly less realistic, etc, you will more speed than with a lower FOV (where you can see less of the track).
If you could sit in the cockpit cam position and just toggle the car on or off around you that would be better than trying to drive in high FOV 2 feet off the ground.
I find the sense of speed to be pretty good in rF2. I'm pretty sure i use 40 for my FOV and the speed feels convincing to me
LoL. We always want realism from rFactors. We always bickering about how the physics being unrealistic and vice versa. But when it comes to driving view, most of us do it the unrealistic way.
