When I am up on the pit lift thing is my car automatically let go at the right time oonce the piut has finished - I never seem to know when to drive off? And how do you change tyres to wets etc? Do you have to use the little right HUD screen and press enter or something to get to the tyres?

Yes , use pit request . You can set pit strategy to a degree in garage. or once pit is requested on track scroll through options in HUD and change on the run (sideways scroll)onec pit stop starts you will see timer counting down ,as soon as its on zero and car dropped away you go. Damn beaten to pit exit by John ;)

also, requesting pit is important!!! if you don't request pit, then it is simulated as if the pitcrew isn't ready and you will lose some extra time (depending on mod I believe). If you request pit in time, then the pit stop will be shorter because the crew will be ready for you

I generally attempt to request the pit approximately 30 seconds prior to my pit entry. Too early and the crew goes back to sleep, too late and they are not ready. I couldn't find the reference but it was previously posted.

All correct. In .HDV file of each car you can set a "Preperation time" which includes the amount of time
the crew needs to be ready when you press the request button.
    So it is mod-dependend.

How do you get the car back into the garage, say to pit or end a session?? Rather than sitting on the pit lane
