Hello everyone ! I decided to create a new thread for helmet models for (mainly) F1 mods, as I am sick and tired of seeing in classic mods the ARAI SK helmet all the time. Don't get me wrong, the Arai is a cool model and it almost fits perfectly in all mods, but it's just not too realistic for the time. A lot of modders are busting their buns to have great detail on cars, tracks, AI, mapping, and unfortunately many times the helmets are left aside. SO, here goes ! And, any help is help, and will ALWAYS BE APPRECIATED So please don't hesitate to pitch in. PS: Some are going to bite me on this, but I'm also modelling helmets for now to take a break off track modding as that was getting a bit tough on me after a while. But no worries, my tracks will eventually come out soon.
A bit of background info of what to expect here: For now I'm only going to do the helmet models via 3ds max. I haven't planned to do any mapping yet, I'm not good enough to do that and I'd like to leave that to the real artists. I'm constantly looking for blueprints for helmet models. I'm limiting myself to the 1970s-1980s-1990s helmets as all the 2000s-present have been covered normally. Here is a small list of helmets I am planning on modelling: - AGV: used by Piquet, de Cesaris - GPA (see pic below) very poular helmet in the beginning of the 80s - Bell (XFM-1): used by many like Senna, Prost, Lauda in the mid-80s - Shoei (Quattro - a.k.a. X4): used by Senna, Berger, Alesi (circa 1992-1996) - Bieffe: used by Nannini, Warwick - Arai: used by Mansell, Berger, Patrese, also a very popular helmet - Nava (moto): used by Piquet If you find any other models I've not mentionned, please do. FYI: Each time I finish a model, I can submit it here. I started off this weekend doing my very first helmet model ever, so I can just get better the more I do it. Here's Nelson Piquet's 1984 GPA (still in WIP):
Just some mini progress info, just wanted to get off simple (GPA a bit too complicated for a novice like me) so I decided to do the 1986 Bell. Normal helmet looks ok, the visor looks like hell, so that's a correction for me to do. Any advice ?
Can you please take pictures of it and post them here ? I'd need perfect front, top and side views in order to make it
Are you doing templates for these helmets too. Once I finish 2018 GP3 helmets, I am always up for doing more
Yes I'm doing (more like trying) to do all the 80s-90s helmets (and templates if I can, this is a special artist skill that I might not have) so that all the historic mods can be more realistic. Right now I'm on vacation, so I brought my old laptop with an old 3dsmax V9, windows XP, and non of my saves from my other computer that's at home, on which I started Berger's Bell and Piquet's GPA. So I'm now restarting Senna's 1986 Bell. I'm always in for help ! We'll go a lot faster than if I stayed alone on these helmets If you're a good artist and can use my basic model to creat the template, p'ease do !
Hi all, just some quick news, I'm learning how to UVW unwrap so that I can make the proper templates for the helmets I'm doing. Once I correctly do one, I'll post my new Bell XFM1 1986 helmet here.
Ok my friends, I'm going to need some good tips on how to texture the visor. I.E. I'd need to know how to do the transparency, tint, reflections, etc because I'd like for you to see the drivers' faces through the visor. Thanks in advance
Ok, back to the GPA (SJ model), looks better than the first one that I did, started from scratch this afternoon: ChiefWiggum this one is the Piquet 86 helmet, I hope you can use it.
Of course I don't know yet how to render correctly, nor paint.. but here's a glimpse: If anyone wants to help please let me know
