Tim, have you seen ethone's post about this issue?

    Link to original post.

Maybe worth looking into. With Fuji 1.01, I can turn all ingame settings to Low, deactivate HDR and so on and will still get heavy stuttering even though the framerate has always 3 digits and the visual quality is definitely pretty bad. So even deactivating some visual settings doesn't stop the engine to calculate the effects anyway it seems.

Whatever the changes in Fuji's version 1.02 were, they helped a lot.

    Changelog for Fuji: v1.02

    - Reduced number and size of environment maps to work around a rF2 issue that would lead to bloated VRAM-usage
    - some small texture size improvements
    - completely remodelled marshall and starter huts
    - tweaked road materials
    - white lines have been lifted from the road texture and put into their own 3d model for slightly better visuals and variation
    - some fixed smoothing (if find any remaining buildings with messed up smoothing let me know)
    - some fixed road material properties
    - added some fake skidmarks

Here a reply from Tosch about the RAM usage:

"Hi ethone, thanks for the update. I just did a quick check about the vram issue.
Graphics card is a GTX275 1792MB. All Settings @ max. AA Level 4, HDR on. Practice with 20 GT cars.
    v 1.01: FPS 55-75, vram consumption 1668 MB.
    v 1.02: FPS 55-72, vram consumption 991 MB!!!"
