AI are using DRS on every straight on every lap. It nullifys its core benefit as an overtaking aid. DRS should only be allowed after detection point clocks you <1 sec behind car you are attacking-following. Then it should be available from the DRS point. AI dont seem to suffer tyre wear like I am! I got about 11 race laps from hard tyres in a 56 lap race (sepang full race dist) AI stopped once at 1/2 dist (lap 28). Both improvements are probably planned but just in case???? This is possible to do 25 laps with mediums so 28 with hards are okay I guess. Improve your driving. About the DRS, in race they don't use it I suppose, except in DRS zone to overtake. So nothing much, practice laptimes doesn't mean a lot.
