Dear users, every track, every car released for rFactor 2 works only with a community. I am just a 3D artist, where people drive my cars, although they don't know that. You don't hear a "thank you" very often anymore. Yes, I have tracks in WIP, however a motivation can only survive if users show interest in it too. So I came up with the following idea. Detroit 2023 Indycar version. A track that is created with the help of the community. This means: everyone can participate. Even if it is only a few textures. That's enough. I would never get the track done on my own. If you want to help me, I can upload the .blend file. Base track - Base of the road should be finished - Safety walls should be fictionalized with the help of the community - Indycar advertising banner - AIW - Details on tracks (thanks to Google Street View) Pictures wip Picture from the map Files Moddev 0: known bugs: wall_02 + skyboxi "has default LOD Out of 10,000m" error could not load TestTeam_Medium.rrbin aiw isn't correct, but you can test the "track download for moddev: link unzip the zip to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\ModDev\Locations Map for blender node: textures for the background map are in the .blend-file the background isn't 100% correct like the roads, because the roads based on the google maps rip download Note: it's a alpha version, so there's some bugs etc. It will continue to be worked on if some people are interested in the track. If not, then no new version will be released.
I need help for that building. What is to do? Mapping and texture. Maybe Google Street View can help you. If you need a other fileformat (fbx, ...) write me please a message. Building 01 Google Street View: link Fileformat: .blend to do mapping texture Pictures
I wished 3d modeling was part of my abilities. I don't have the capability of being able to assist at this point. I'm starting to poke around with Race Track Builder but I have other projects that I'm working on before I can continue to learn that further. One thing that might be of assistance is Lilski's tutorials. Lilski is the person that built Watkins Glen, Road America, Mosport, VIR etc for AC, which was then converted to rF2. I was able to use his first tutorial to get some lidar data for the future track projects I wanted to do. I'm not sure what is available for Detroit, but it might give a little better data than just the Google Maps data. It's just unfortunate that RTB isn't able to use this lidar info.
Thank you @Chris Lesperance. Over that link i can download detroit, but i think the google maps 3d files are sufficient. And after I download the lidar scan file (80 mb) i exported it via CloudCompare. The OBJ File has now over 3 gb lol. The complete Google Maps rip has got 1,8gb and it's the track and not only a part from it.
“I’m just so excited,” said Newgarden during a presentation to local media. “I got to drive the track for about an hour this morning with pretty much everyone, and it really is a great layout.
hi, is this project still going forward ? We have planned a round at Detroit at end of May (30th) but i think it is too short we would rather ran on old version on Belle Isle.
I made some new stuff etc, but after december with no comments, feedback etc. I canceled that project.
we all know, building a track from scratch is very long and too many hours of free work, especially alone or limited group of person. but can converting it from Assetto could be an other idea ? With the time, i saw that many (all ?) tracks of indycar seasons are also on Assetto Corsa 1. A sim driver from the championship it used to drove gave this link today: final track layout: https://www.racingcircuits.info/north-america/usa/detroit.html Detroit 2023 - First Drive author: Race Track Technologies date: 25th May 2023 A quick look at the new Detroit layout. Currently unsure about what Turns 1,2 and 10 will look like, and it's likely they will change. Car - RSS Formula America (an AC mod)
It's a good idea at the condition that the track quality is good enough for nowadays standards. Looking at the track in video, it would require a lot of work. It might be even better to start from scratch
He will publish it as a paid mod for rFactor 2 as well. €5 or $5 if we take the price for AC. As for the trees and the buildings, I got the impression that he won't improve them (not sure if one of his YT commentaries). He seems to focus solely in the accuracy of the track itself.
