Wow Woodee, a whole new approach ! Thanks for taking the time to make this lesson, I will try it out during the weekend and let you know how I get on I am waiting for permission to download the Google link (it seems to be locked).
Method normally works.... loads in the viewer, but doesn't seem to appear in the track list in game of devmode.
This file is not important at all. Take the XXXthmb.tga file from an existing track. I would suggest using Noel's Extract Tool. It has a function to extract a rfcmp to dev mode. It will also help you understanding folder structure to use a track in devmode. The track that you should open is the original rF1 one. You are probably trying to open the Baku.scn that you just created with the vbs script where there is obviously nothing yet. I agree it can be confusing in the video but I guess that logic should always be applied.
Sorry to butt in on this thread but I have a couple of questions. I was considering converting some Australian & New Zealand tracks. 1/ Will I have to buy 3DSim or will the demo do the job. 2/ Will they all have to be modified for the DX11 update.
You used to be able to use 3dsimed for 30 days free.. (depends how quick you are and learn).. howevr i havent checked if they still offer that. For DX11, you wont need to do much except alter all texture levels to suit the new Physical based rendering engine (Photoshop or a decent free picture editing software should be able to do this) - Alter saturation levels. Also i would encourage you to contact the authors to seek permission out of courtesy.
I certainly would contact the authors before proceeding. I suppose the first one will take the longest. After that the others should be similar or is that not always the case. There are 3 Australian & 4 NZ tracks I would like to convert.
Quick and dirty conversions would take a few hours (once you get a feel for it). If you correct AIW, cameras etc it can take longer, also geting the realroad to look right.
