23 sounds very little for a single screen. I'm usually using twice the FOV. I just calculated my FOV with the above mentioned website and it gives me 22.93 degrees (essentially 23 degrees as well). Are you sure this is for single screen users?

I'm using Fraps. My settings are:

30 fps
Half-Size
Force lossless RGB
Locked Framerate while recording

Let me know if it's useful to you.
It's putting the wheel and cockpit at the right distance, the way they'd actually look if you were in the car, right size.

Forget those FOV calculations, they'll give you 25 degrees and you crash in the cars around you unless you have triple screens. Adjust it to make you comfortable. Don't drive like this:

I've always assumed a car is where I saw it going. :) Though I will say that when I am recording anything I do put the FOV out because the lower FOV looks crappy on Youtube, etc.

I have tried 23 degrees FOV. It is completely impossible to drive like this. Unless, you're happy with sunday driving that is. Couldn't even see the apex of any turn not to mention other cars. It feels like you're driving with your eyes crossed or something.
30 degrees is the absolute minimum for me where I can get somewhat decent laptimes. Even on my favourite tracks, which I know in and out, with 23 degrees I was constantly 2-3 seconds behind my own personal best. This is some big BS.
It can be difficult. I would advise (I'm by no means trying to force you to) using something like a Track IR because obviously a real driver can move their eyes and head.

Tim,

I tried that. Even glued together my own headtracker. It just doesn't work for me. Even the NoIR doesn't seem to work or what's more probable I'm to stoopid to get it working correctly. The original TrackIR is out of the question. Way too expensive for me. Anyway, I appreciate your thoughts.

Showing off my off-worldly skills again... (sarcasm for those who are about to jump me now)

Muhahaaa

Why not use head motion settings, this may help to have some degrees in bend.
For example with my setting :

Now I can't drive without ;)

Thanks Gaetan, I'll try that.

Another Macau video. WTCC E90 this time. Great mod.

Yeah, my bad. I made that comment after reading the previous page earlier in the day and had completely forgot about it being that low. I'm not going to disagree with your statements about that on a single with no tracking.

No worries, man. It made me try something new so it isn't all bad. ;)

How do I set this up?

Those 23 degrees was for triple screens (for this guy with 3 TVs).

And @Racefreak1976

For this set I use this in player.JSON :

"Exaggerate Yaw":0.64,
"Exaggerate Yaw#":"Visually exaggerates the heading angle of the vehicle by rotating the head (which may improve \"feel\")",

"Glance Angle":1,
"Glance Angle#":"Angle to look left\/right (yaw) w\/ controller in radians (= degrees \/ 57)",

"Head Physics":1,
"Head Physics#":"Fraction of head physics movement applied to cockpit view (position AND rotation)",
"Head Rotation":0.5,
"Head Rotation#":"Additional head physics multiplier affecting rotation only",

"Leanahead Angle":0.25,
"Leanahead Angle#":"Angle to lean head (roll) w\/ steering in radians (= degrees \/ 57)",

"Look Roll Angle":1,
"Look Roll Angle#":"Angle to lean head (roll) w\/ controller in radians (= degrees \/ 57)",
"Look Up/Down Angle":1,
"Look Up/Down Angle#":"Angle to look up\/down (pitch) w\/ controller in radians (= degrees \/ 57)",
"Lookahead Angle":0.2,
"Lookahead Angle#":"Angle to lookahead (yaw) w\/ steering in radians (= degrees \/ 57)",

You can change for your own preference ;)

So nice to see a good fov and seating position once in a while ;)
What size monitor are you using here?
