when i start the game with a lmp car, it starts with maximum revs, then blows the engine. Other cars are fine. I've tried different settings, but it seems to be just the lmp cars. Auto engine start is turned off. Is there a setting i'm missing?

Which car specifically? I've seen this on the Lotus Cortina mod too.

The metalmoro ajr was the first car I noticed it on, but I just loaded the Ferrari gtc, and that did it too. With auto engine start switched off, surely no cars should even start with the engine running??!

Not a cure but a possible work around. Prior to loading any car, test your pedals at the Calibration screen to verify the game sees them correctly. Which AJR, there are 4 engine choices.
edit: Just tried it with the Judd powered AJR, and yes, the rpms climb EVEN BEFORE the power is turned on. The rate of increase is measured, it is not like an engine in neutral was revved suddenly, more like an electric charge.(it takes a couple of seconds to climb to the max) The rpm rate just rises and pegs the needle without any input from the driver OR with any power switched on.
Moving the pedals does not affect the runaway engine, only pressing the A key to allow the AI to take the car out brings normal operation.

I have checked the inputs from the pedals, everything is fine. I will try letting the ai take over, see if that helps. Thanks

The Formula E cars have done this in the garage at start for a while (I think months, but I'm not sure).

I had that a while back after loading a Setup in the 962.
Turned out the Engine Brake was a setting in the Setup that when changed to zero cured it.

It' worked on the 962, I set the brake mapping to 0 like you said fixed it! But I'm also having the same problem with touring car revival mods. Sadly it did not work on these cars, I also tried loading the cars without the saved setup and the problem is still present!

This has just started happening to me yesterday too. I start the race (or practice) and the car starts revving maximum revs. It continues to do this until the engine blows. When I checked the controller inputs in the settings menu, everything seemed to be working fine. However I tried remapping the controllers and seem to be having intermittent trouble detecting any controller whatsoever!

I have tried various cars and tracks and they all do the same.

Assetto Corsa and Dirt Rally both still work fine.

Another weird glitch that happened is every time I started a session, I could hear the start sounds, but all I could see was sky. Kept happening after restarted the weekend or advancing to the next session.

    I have tried:
    • Many of my existing controller saved profiles.
    • Deleting my player.json and allowing the game to created a new one
    • Validating my files in steam

I’ve got an even bigger problem now. As soon as I click on ‘start racing’, it just crashes to desktop. I’ve tried everything the internet has to offer to remedy this, but no joy at all. I’m about to give up. It’s just not stable enough!

    @Steve Barrow
    rename "userdata" in "userdata.old"
    and launch the game

you will have to redo all your settings

Can confirm the Reiza pack has the full throttle bug too. Many of the older mods are affected - the ASR F1 cars are affected for instance.

I am also having this issue, with:
All of the cars from the Reiza pack
and from steam workshop, Ferrari 643 1991 mod

If I shift fast enough, I can get to the higher gears without it launching me. Then, the RPM doesn't climb fast enough to build up until I shift down. Letting AI take over prevents it. Turning engine off doesn't stop it.

And I am pretty sure I was playing the Reiza pack cars just the other day without issue.

@Corti found the issue can be related with engine.ini

A fix has been found, if you set engine braking to 0 for now(if you can), it'll fix it until the next hot fix is released.

The first car I saw this with was the AJR and it did not allow engine brake changes, but the greyed out setting was already at 0

If you convert engine.ini to latest RF2 format at rfactor2 online tool site, the issue is solved.
I fixed my 2 mods with it.

Ya, it only happens with really old engine formats.

Edit: I'm sorry, I didn't even look at the date of this thread.

Is this problem 'new' with the new update? I'm having it on several of my cars too.
It's not a controller problem. The car "formula vee" and several others actually don't start at full RPMs, and actually that's not entirely true either... The car's engine far exeeds any RPM you could induce with just planting your 'loud' foot to the floor.
Unistalling and re-installing the vehicle mods doesn't seem to do anything.

I will try the fix noted above. Thanks!
