@S397 Auto FPS setting : This function is very old. I wonder if it can still be used, if it actually allows to keep FPS, how it works, and if S397 expect to improve. Thank you.
As far as I know it still works. Auto detail FPS will start to lower details if the FPS drops below that threshold. I also use max FPS so for example Auto detail on 60 and max on 100. I believe this prevents massive changes in FPS.
Thanks David. I do hope, however, an official and precise answer from S397. @Marcel Offermans Thank's
It's a last resort setting, or a backup for disastrous performance situations. What it tends to do makes things look bad (like disappearing car parts, as above) and by its nature it's reactive rather than proactive - the game can't predict how long a frame will take to draw before it starts drawing it, so you're going to have at least one slow frame before it can start to try and react by deciding what to not draw next time. It's useful for people with very poor graphics performance, potentially a way to improve their FPS by basically permanently not drawing everything they'd normally see, but it's possibly beneficial for everyone to minimise FPS loss in busy moments at the expense of visuals. As long as you know why things are disappearing, otherwise it's disconcerting.
