3dsmax matterial editor and assigning material to objects

    i have this problem after i have imported a track into 3dsmax and i won't to add say just a plan and a new material
    so i setup new material id number is say 179 make a plan turn it into a editable poly i click poly and select all the poly's
    then where it says polygon:material id's i type in set id 179 press enter and/or drag the material onto the plan
    instead of it saying in the dropdown box road 179 it says no name 179 but if i select a object that was already in the scene and do the same process it will say in the dropdown box road 179
    what am i doing wrong any ideas plz help

    the materials have two names, "Slot name" and "material name". I suppose you use "multi/sub-object" in one slot, to change material name need to edit the material and change the name in top.

    can use my Gmaterialtool to handle gmaterials.
